My rabbits are kept as pets and I only have two of them, but I don't want to feed them our vegetables that we buy for our family. I was thinking of growing a herb garden with some vegetables in it too. I'd grow Romain lettuce for sure, maybe some carrots, and some herbs. I have no idea what kind of herbs rabbits can have though. If you guys could tell me some different herbs and other veggies I could grow for them that'd be great. I'd need to be able to plant them now and still have them grow. It's Spring where I live. |

I just got a list off the internet. Tell me what you think of it. Leaf Lettuce (You can just cut off the leaves instead of pulling out the entire plant) Carrots Wheat Grass Cilantro Parsely Mint (Idk about this one because it spreads so easily. Maybe I'll pot it to be safe.) Basil Sage Rosemary Dandelion (Can you even buy dandelion seeds?) Thyme |

I had good luck with parsley, lemon balm and chamomile last year. I didn't want the deer eating everything, so I grew them all in pots near the house. lol I am going to try some more things this year. I planted other things too, but they didn't grow well for me. One of them was lavender I think. I can't remember the other things. I was thinking about some type of grass though. So perhaps I'll do wheat grass this year. Try some other flowers too. There are some rabbit safe flowers that they love. Sunflowers, nasturtiums, pot marigolds (aka Calendula), roses... then of course chamomile, dandelions, rosemary, and lavender have flowers. ![]() Aren't dandelions considered weeds? lol They grow all over our lawn. Here are some links I found. Not sure if you've seen them. They list some good rabbit options. http://www.trianglerabbits.org/care/rabbitgarden.html http://www.rabbitsonline.net/f28/quick-list-gardening-your-bunny-52762/ |

Got our seeds ordered http://www.heirloomsolutions.com/Default.asp Couldn't find dandelion seeds either. So going around to neighbors yards who we know do not use anything on their lawn, and hopefully can get some seeds from them. Another good site to learn about what herbs are good for rabbits http://riseandshinerabbitry.com/2012/06/09/medicinal-herbs-for-rabbits/ KAZ |

lol - yes, you can buy dandelion seeds. You can get a french variety that has HUGE leaves. FYI - dandelions were originally imported to the US for as a garden crop (edible leaves are slightly bitter, but popular in salads) - you can also buy dandelion leaves in some grocery stores with the other 'spring greens'. Dandelion jelly is HARD to make, but delicious (sort of a honey-lemon flavor). Ditto on tea and I've tried dandelion wine too. I used to make the jelly when my kids were little and they thought picking dandelions was fun. Very under-rated plant. |

I never bought seeds -- I don't use any chemicals, so my 'lawn' used to be mostly yellow (before goats - goats eat them all). But you can buy them through Richters ... http://www.richters.com Absolutely wonderful source for herb plants/seeds - I've bought a lot from them over the years. |
