Hello Sorry i haven't been on here in a while.. end of 2013, i had decided to slow down with the rabbits and put a break on it. I was desperately trying to get out of my parents house and find my own place, with the realisation that it's impossible to bring 20 rabbits with you. So i decided to rehome all of them, except for a breeding trio. A buck and 2 doe's. I don't know how to call it but i was busy with other things and not in to breeding rabbits anymore. Coming out of the hospital, i missed the hobby and saw my doe's mounting eachother.. i put them with the buck and they were bred succesfully. I was feeling excited again and was angry with myself for rehoming my lutino and satin carriers that i worked so hard for to get.. I started looking online for new rabbits to buy, maybe 2 female netherland dwarfs.. but i wasn't so succesful. 2 weeks later.. My friends dog was staying over at my house and i had to leave the house for an hour. I put roofing sheets infront and behind the opening to the rabbits corner. I wish i put them inside for safety but i guess i was too naive.. When i came back home, i saw the dog by the rabbit cages with a thrilled look on its face. As i walk over.. i see my 2 pregnant doe's lying dead on the ground. I screamed and cried.. my neighbour rushed over and mom tried to calm me down. I am still devastated about it.. Videl, she is the first lutino to come here and start everything ![]() Zeyna, the doe i loved so much. She and Videl have the same sire. ![]() I asked my friend.. maybe it was a warning sign from above telling me to stop with the rabbits? She told me no.. you love those animals and you need that hobby to stay happy. I agreed and now a few weeks later.. i have 2 new female's and im getting the third on sunday. What i'm really sad about is.. after rehoming all those rabbits, i kept the 2 females who where supposed to bear the next generation of lutino's. The last remaining heiresses to carry my breeding project.. gone. The chocolate doe was lutino and satin carrier and she was so beautiful.. i was so proud of having bred her. Probably my most favourite rabbit i ever had.. now gone. And i won't get anything back that i gave away.. i really regret it. How could i be so stupid? Here are the 2 new doe's that i have. A breedless chocolate doe. Her kids will be lutino carriers for next year. I have to cull the vienna marked kits though, they are not desired. ![]() Im so happy i got her. She is a black satin and the only one to carry the lutino gene. She is actually the daughter of my breeding buck. ![]() This doe im getting in 2 days.. a nice looking netherland dwarf. ![]() At this point.. im trying to figure out how to move on and what decisions to make without any regrets. To keep in mind that im probably going to move out after summer.. i just hope i will be able to find a house that is open to animals or has a backyard. Also good to see you all again, i will try to be more active again. Edited by Disney, Apr 18 2014, 07:28 PM.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I know the feeling of losing a favorite rabbit. I lost my buck, Louie when he was only five months old. He taught me everything. I loved him so much. I'm glad you have the strength to try to move on. It will always be hard but the knowledge you got from having all those other rabbits is everything. Now you can start with a new herd and this time make fewer mistakes since you already know what you are doing. Good luck to you and your new herd. |

Disney, I'm so sorry to hear the troubles you have been going through. Please don't second guess yourself. You did what you had to do at the time. Hope you find a place of your own, and then can start to concentrate bringing your line back. Sometimes starting over is a bit sad, but take it as a learning experience. I know it hurts, but it's a new start. It happens. So glad to see you back! KAZ |

It's not easy when you hear the other breeder having litter after litter with lutino's popping out and i have only succeeded to breed just 1.. who i ended up selling.. there is another regret. How was i so stupid? But it will be okay.. i got the 3rd doe now. A netherland dwarf. She is bred the minute we arrived home. I just hope she is going to have healthy babies.. her first litter died, probably peanuts.

Know it's tough hearing news of other breeders being successful with litters. I am in the same position, lol. So wishing I could continue my LH program, but had to take a step back. Lovely Chocolate ND. Fingers crossed her second litter goes better. Hoping for healthy kits just like her! KAZ |
