I finally got the seeds to grow my own vegetable garden for my rabbits! I'm gonna grow them in pots so I can move them inside during the winter and keep them year round. I was looking for wheat grass and came across a grass called lemon grass. I couldn't find wheat grass so bought lemon grass instead. I did search the internet and it is safe for rabbits. I'm pretty excited to try it after reading the back of it. It says, "The stalks are infused with a strong lemon fragrance that is brought out with even the slightest brush of the foliage. Trim off the grassy top and root end. Peel away the outer fibrous layers until you reach the tender core, which is lavender." I didn't buy lavender but I know they like it, so SCORE! I also got sweet basil, romaine lettuce, Italian parsley, coriander cilantro, thyme, and sage. I think I'm most excited for the lemon grass. Anyone ever head of it? |

Never heard of lemon grass. My husband thinks they call it something different here. My Z-Tribe loves Lemon Basil. Congratulations on your garden. It's a lot of work, but truly worth it and your rabbits will love you for it! KAZ |

I've grown lemon grass for cooking -- years ago, before we had rabbits, so I can't say whether or not the bunnies like it. Flavor is a mild lemon - I mostly used it to make tea. The core is lavender in color, not flavor. That's the part you need for most recipes as it has the strongest flavor. I believe bunnies can eat the fibrous part too. The plant never overwintered for me - not sure whether it will if brought inside, or whether it is a true annual that needs to be re-grown from seed each year. |
