I decided to use the old wooden box I have for my rabbits as her nestbox since she's used to it. I haven't yet, but I'm thinking of using a staple gun to staple a piece of cardboard to the opening to make it less shallow. On the bottom, I put a layer of aspen chips, then straw, then hay. Sadie dug in it tonight (I went out to give her treats), ruined my neat organization but didn't nest. I don't know when she got pregnant so I figure it's safer to just give it to her now so she has it when it is time. I've noticed that she only has aggression issues (growling, batting with her paws, ears back, sometimes lunging) when she has been in direct contact with Sonny. I was babysitting three little girls today and they let Sonny into Sadie's part of the cage and she got a bit stressed from that. She's not aggressive towards Sonny (just growls at him), but does all the things mentioned above to me. I have to put gloves on to pick her up in case she decides to bite me. I am trying not to pick her up to not hurt the babies if there is any.

I REALLY want babies. I have the money to get Sadie spayed now and now I'm just waiting for babies. If she doesn't have babies by May first, she won't have babies will she? That would have been about a month and a little bit I think since I separated them. I need to make an appointment for her if she's not pregnant though. If she doesn't have babies by then should I put a note on her carrier for the vet to palpate her and if she's pregnant to not fix her or should I just not fix her?

I would take her to get fixed after 38 days. Then I would kind of know she wasn't pregnant. If you aren't sure, good idea to have your Vet feel for babies before the surgery.

But if there is no babies, I would continue with the spay. With all the time she was with the buck, she may just not be able to have babies.

I thought you were going to breed your buck with a friend's doe? Did that take place? If all goes well with that, are you going to get a buck or doe from that litter?

Believe me, understand the urge to "have bunny babies", but sometimes it just doesn't work out the way you plan. Know how that works, lol.

Yes - 38 days from separation would pretty much assure she isn't pregnant -- or if she was something is truly wrong (i.e., babies have died inside her).

Still have my fingers crossed for you.

Sonny has been bred with another doe but I don't know if I'm going to take one. I was really set on either one of my babies (from both Sonny & Sadie) or a mini lop. So if I can't have my own babies, I'm okay with that and I'll just look for a mini lop. I really want a rabbit with a nice personality and lops are known for that. If I can't find one of those, I'll get a dutch rabbit or rescue an already spayed/neutered one from the shelter.

Sadie is growling at me now if I even touch her belly. Could something have gone wrong and she's hurting or just territorial. She's fine if I touch her back just not her belly. And she was digging in her nest box.

Sometimes after they have been in contact with a buck, even if they aren't pregnant, they will get sassy and not want you to touch them.

Does go through "false pregnancy". Go through the motion of making nests, pulling fur, and also go through the "feeling" of it as well, thinking it's actually a pregnancy.

It's tough with does sometimes to actually know they are pregnant. Just observe, make sure she's eating, drinking, pooing, and urinating. After 38 days, and no kits show up, I would definitely call it "false".

This I think is one of the reasons why those who have pet rabbits, feel that does should be spayed. They feel that it's mean to allow a doe to go through this "false pregnancy". None of my does have gone through the growling stage, or fur pulling. They just love to nest at certain times. They are not stressed. Just feel they need to do a job, which is hardwired into their systems.

not being spayed wouldn't make her uncomfortable. Not sure whether or not a false pregnancy would. I've only had a couple that got that 'don't touch my belly' attitude (but Ok with otherwise being petted - and had been OK with bellies touched previously) -- they had their litters about a week after it started. Never had a problem with touching bellies at the stage (2 weeks) when you are supposed to palpate (not that I've ever been good at that - which is why I tend to try again at 3 weeks) - it's only been the 'later stage' does. I assume growing/active babies inside make them uncomfortable.

Okay. Even though Sonny will be neutered, I'm going to get Sadie spayed as well because she is a bit territorial and aggressive and I don't want her to continue to have that attitude. Thanks for all the help and I'm hoping this isn't a false pregnancy but I have gone through those with other does.
