We had such great luck with Jake accepting all the bunnies, that this is the first time we have brought a new dog into the Z-Tribe. Was a bit nervous about the whole thing. Lilly is a Lab Mix, today she is 6 months old. So far, no problems with her dealing with the buns. Really thrilled about that. The only thing she really does is constant steal Maurice's hay. Yep, we have to tell her that hay is for bunnies and not puppies. We try anyway, but she is constantly chewing on hay. Those puppy teeth are really bothering her. And rather chew on hay than anything else. It just might be a phase she is going through. Jake didn't chew hay, but did like all the goodies that the Z-Tribe got (cheerios, papaya, spinach, wheat grass). Only time will tell. We have found that when my husband goes to see the rabbits, Lilly will start to whine and get in between my husband and the rabbit he's talking to. Jealousy personified. Also, she will whine if I talk to certain buns. Last night, talking to Luna, Lilly was in her crate whining softly. I don't know whether she was whining because Lilly knew I was giving out treats to the buns. Not so much jealousy regarding me as Lilly sees me interact more with the Z-Tribe. Taking is slow. The outside bunny run was a success. Lilly saw the rabbits, watched them running and moving around, but did not try to get at them. Lilly was curious, and took time to go and inspect each bun. Whenever she got a bit over excited, we would distract her with a toy. My husband hasn't held a bun yet or have I had a bun run around inside. Lilly needs more time to know she's one of the tribe. I can truly understand her jealousy as she's just trying to let us know she's happy to be with us and doesn't want us to loose focus on her. Especially my husband as Lilly is just completely bonded to him. In the house, Lilly has gone and brought her toys and placed them in front of certain buns (Maurice and Luna) as she wanted to play. Lilly has started to do checks in the morning, once she's back inside after going out for potty break. Glad to see that routine starting to form. Same one Jake used to do. We eventually hope to make Lilly understand that the buns are very important to us, as she is. I think as she matures, and that "shelter concept" dissipates, she'll get the concept, as she's getting to understand other concepts. She's smart, very smart. Just giving it time, not rushing anything as we are focused on making dog/bunny harmony again. We love both and know it can work. Common sense is all you need and true love for both dog and buns. Bit of extra work, but all are worth it. All in all, Lilly and the Z-Tribe are doing well. Just in the short period Lilly has been there. Can't ask for anything more. Well, a million dollars wouldn't hurt, lol. KAZ |

Lilly found out that she loves to eat bunny poo. Just recently been raiding Maurice bin collector. Had to put a fence around the stackers to keep Lilly from foraging. We need to make certain changes. Not that she's bad, but she is getting naughty, and this needs to be addressed. Tough love works well. Wish we had gotten three months earlier, but it is what it is. It's becoming more and more apparent that someone really did a number on her. Meaning beating her. She is not fond of the overhead pet, which brings on mouthing. Was terrible yesterday, but I think just a bit overtired. So we are being strict on nap time. Have to. She is so much better when she's rested. With shelter dogs it takes a bit to really see where you are at with them. Once you know they know they are home, then it's time to get down to business of teaching them manners. We are not strict in a sense, but we do expect certain behaviors. KAZ |

like children, they are happier once they know the rules/expectations and can follow them. |

So true. Whoever had her before gave her no guidance just correction. Plus Lilly is teething big time now. Finding teeth all over the yard. We have inspected the gums and her new teeth all look good. So this is a big hurdle now with getting her to understand guidelines. Big job, but not an issue. We see through all this the potential of this young lady. And we will get her there. Done it too many other times and she is a diamond in the rough. We have a true plan now and will stick to it. She is definitely worth it. Can see how many labs get surrendered because of their high energy level. And need of attention and guidance. Labs are hardwired this way. KAZ |

Today Lilly has been with us for 16 days. Yesterday was a true breakthrough. She's understand that their are guidelines and do's and don'ts. She's really starting to pay attention. I know it's not long. Definitely have to work on lengthening her attention span. She never had anyone do this as a puppy, so we need to go back to basics. Repair what was not done, and then move forward. Got some excellent advise reading the Labrador Retriever Forum. Lots of treats in the pocket and basically going back to basics. Really great advise for those who have rescued older puppies and dogs. Never thought of it that way. I guess you can start over. It's a long road, but it's well worth. And we are already seeing positive results. She definitely is a diamond in the rough. Saw a bit of that shine last night. Can't wait to get off from work today so that I can work with Lilly. KAZ |

Z-Tribe has calmed down as I'm working with Lilly in the house as well as outside. When she goes toward the Z-Tribe, I say "Leave it". Listening now very well with that command in the house. She accompanied me around this morning when feeding the Z-Tribe. I worked with her "sit" so that she's not "in their face" as much. Know that she will not grab at them, but with her excitement sometimes, puts them into a tizzy. Worked well today, Maurice has been laying up front more and more so know that he's happy with the new regiment with the pup. KAZ |

Little update on Lilly and the Z-Tribe: Everyone seems to have settled in now that we have Lilly on a restricted schedule, meaning she is supervised 100% when in the house. Seems to be working well with her as she understanding she needs boundaries or guidance. The Z-Tribe already accepted her just didn't know how to take her being right there. Lilly absolutely adores Maurice. She is always going to him and he allows here to lick his paws. Nose to nose all the time. Lilly also is starting to visit Dobby and Willard, along with Luna. Not trying to get at them, but just scenting them. And the buns are doing the same. Will still be awhile before I allow any buns exercise outside their crate in the house. And when that occurs, Lilly will be in her crate where she knows she's safe. Eventually we will build up to her being on leash. She's still a pup and we know how pups are. Keeping is safe for all involved. KAZ |

Lilly is doing well outside when the buns are out. She's listening and when she does get a bit excited when watching the buns, we put the leash on. Just a few corrections and we can release her. She calms right down. Thrilled with her progress. Can't ask for anything more. She's honestly trying and she's understanding these little creatures are important to us and can be friendly to her. I know as a pup, they get a little wiry which is totally normal. ![]() Checking out Neville ![]() Fascinated with Kreacher ![]() Love when the buns go into their resting pots as Lilly then starts searching and shows her concern when she can't find them. But as soon as she eyeballs them, the attitude changes. Great sign that she's counting the rabbits and she realizes they are part of the game. Not to play with, but to watch over and keep safe. ![]() ![]() ![]() Interacting with Luna ![]() So far Lilly has shown no aggression towards the Z-Tribe. Which she is truly part of. KAZ |
