Sadie pulled fur either last night or during the day today. She could have had her babies already but if she did, they are gone. Sonny got into her side of the cage last night. It's not attached to the top of the cage and Sonny figured out how to climb up the divider and over. I'm so worried Sadie ate her babies or Sonny did. I didn't see any blood on the fur or anywhere in the nest. I didn't check Sonny or Sadie's mouths though. I rushed Sonny out of the cage and put him into a complete different cage. I cleaned his side of the cage completely getting his smell out of it and took out the divider so Sadie has the full run of the cage. Could they have eaten them or is she going to have the babies tonight-next week?

Unlikely they would have gotten every bit of blood out of the fur. And the fur would have been scattered -- very unlikely she would have rebuilt a nest with the babies gone. Look for babies tonight. Fingers crossed.

Thank gosh. I was so worried. I would much rather have no babies then have mom or dad eat them.

I just want to say thank you for all your help. I've bred rabbit before but not for a long time, so thank you for putting up with all my questions.

Could be she pulled fur but is having a false pregnancy, so no babies would have appeared. But also some does are more on the ball and will pull fur before they have their kits, instead of rushing afterwards or right before.

Fingers crossed you come out today and find the fur mound moving with healthy kits underneath.

Don't worry about all the questions, here at RA, no stupid questions and no limit of how many questions can be asked. We all know how important our rabbits are to us and we all worry about them.

I don't think the male rabbit would have eaten them in any case. Unlike other mammals, where the mom won't mate if they are nursing (and so a male might kill babies to bring the mom back into cycle or just to replace them with his own offspring), female rabbits are willing to breed immediately after giving birth. So no incentive for the male to harm kits.

Female rabbits kill and eat any kits that are 'wrong' (injured, birth effect, etc), stillborn or if they have too many to care for - reabsorbing the energy to provide better care to the ones that have the best chance of surviving. Sometimes, they get overzealous cleaning kits (getting rid of bloodsmell that might attract predators) - this is more likely to happen if there is a predator or other disturbance (like a male) in the immediate vicinity. A male that's been in the next cage all along is a relatively low risk.

Keep asking questions - that's the point of the forum - so we all keep learning together!

No babies today, but she's still being aggressive and territorial, so I'm hoping it's not a false pregnancy. The fur on her belly is coming easily off.

I don't even know if rabbits get that fat during pregnancy but she looks like she's going to pop.

Every once in a while, one of mine gets huge. I have Hollands though, so they don't usually have large litters. Did have a small doe with 6 babies a whole back and her tummy was enormous. Usually I can't really tell if only looking at them.

Shes a dwarf bunny. When she stands with her rear end facing me, you can see the sides of her belly swelled up. And when she lies on her side, she looks like her belly is going to rip at the seams.

They are moving around a lot because there are ants in the fur. Not like a swarm but I probably killed like 15 ants this morning off there little bodies. They are very squiggly and itchy almost.

One of the little babies is tiny, but not deformed like a peanut. Hoping she makes it. Much smaller than her siblings.
