OMG I feel so awful. Josh was handing me his babies (6 days old and growing fast) this morning as we checked them and one popcorned out of my hands. I was standing so it was a drop from waist height -- about 3 foot. It screamed when I picked him up. Held him a bit until he calmed down. Wiggling and seems Ok when I put him back. Really really hoping he wasn't injured... it all just happened so fast.

Josh chose his names for them this morning just before we went out (sometimes I think naming is a jinx) - Moonbeam, Moondream and Wildmoon.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that :( . Don't feel too bad, though - It wasn't your fault. Like you said, they popcorn all over! Friends of ours once had a newborn kit who was accidentally dropped (on concrete) and it ended up being just fine. When my Coby was two weeks old, he wiggled out of my hands and landed on hard wood - about a 4 ft. drop - I felt awful and was so worried but he was fine too.

Thanks, good to know I'm not the first and that they are usually OK. Barn floor is dirt and at the moment the shearing mat (basically carpet) is still spread over it. So it should have been a relatively soft landing.

Although I handle my kits a lot and rarely drop them, it does happen. Mostly with babies out of a mom that I didn't raise... cause is usually that they "pop" and catch me off guard. Mine are usually much calmer.

I once had a little fellow fly from my hands at the same age as yours. Fell onto concrete but he was fine. As long as the little one doesn't seem to have any broken bones, it should be all right. They are surprisingly tough!

That's why all the times I took the nest box out, didn't remove any kits until I had the nest box on the kitchen table. So, so worried about dropping squirmy kits.

Sounds like no damage done as the fall was on soft ground. Only scared the stuffing out of you. Sounds like baby was more surprised than hurt.

Seems fine when we checked last night...actually, since all three look identical yet, I'm not entirely sure which kit is the one I dropped. All three alive and (when I pulled the fur back to check) popping in the nestbox. At this activity level, they are going to be out of the nestbox as soon as their eyes are open (7 days today, so probably eyes open by the weekend).

Excellent news to hear. So kit was more scared than hurt, if you can't pick out the one that "got away" from the other two.
