I like No#3 because it reminds me of Tort with that sweet VM marking (stripe down the center of his/her face). Louie, if you find a method to keep brand new kits still to take pics of their personal parts, please let me know. I failed miserably with my kits, lol. And for the record, my sexing skills needs LOTS of help. lol. Thought I had 3 bucks and a doe for the longest time, until female parts (nipples) started to appear. Poor Ginnie was Cedric for the longest time. Hope you can snap some good pics so that you can get some help on sexing your kits. I'll be looking forward to learning more how to really learn to sex kits. KAZ |

Did I not mention the shape of their "parts" in my message? That is what most people go by, but if I'm convinced that it's the reason why some people get a some wrong. A lot of my baby bucks have more of a "slit" shape to them, but it's obvious after pushing down (super gently) that it's far away from the anus and no longer a slit. A lot of my does, as well, will be close to the anus but will not really be a "slit" shape... more like a dot, but far down. If you just look at them like that, you're likely to get some wrong. Not everyone can sex babies accurately at this age, you may want to wait until they're older if you can accurately do it then. |

#1 and #5 look like boys to me, the rest look like girls. I'm going to go off that until they get older and then check for sure. I'm not very good at it until at least 10 weeks of age. |

Just remember what the "parts" looked at now and then check in 10 weeks, at the point you are good at knowing what the parts are. Maybe that will help you know earlier than 10 weeks next time. Parts are so small and look so much a like at that age. You would think these bunnies would make it easier for us, with maybe a little tag at birth, lol. Seriously, really understand how even the experts can get the sex wrong sometimes. KAZ |

The babies are getting so big. I think four babies instead of five is easier on Sadie. Its a pretty big litter for her size (3-4 lbs) and her first time. She's done a fantastic job. Their fur is in and their ears are open. Just waiting on eyes. Today is day 8 I believe. Pictures? |

Okay. I will upload pictures. One question. Tonight is supposed to be 38 degrees tonight. Should I put a blanket around the nest box to hold the heat in or a heat lamp or something? Or will they be fine without any extra heat? |

Oh and I rechecked today. Since they are a bit bigger, I tried to see the length between the anus and their "parts" and it looks like I have two girls and two boys now. |

Looking forward to updated pics. I don't know about a blanket or heat lamp, but some extra hay will help keep little ones warm. Plus Mom. KAZ |

Heat lamps are dangerous (chewed cords, sparks, overheating, etc). Never use those. A blanket would be OK, but probably not necessary. I just added extra hay to my boxes last night. Only 36F this morning, and everyone burrowed down in. I didn't dare pull back fur to check, but I can still see movement underneath. |

We get below freezing nights consistently, even into the summer. I have heat lamps suspended over my brood cages, but only turn them on when the babies are less than a week/week and half old and only when it gets below 20 or so. They do just fine. |

Ok. I did end up using the heat lamp on the outside of the cage. It didn't touch the cage and nobody could reach the wires so it was ok for the night. I already unplugged it and took it in. |

Found another chilled kit this morning. I wasn't home and my mom was taking care of them. She found her still moving, with mom hovering over her. Her movements were slow and she was very cold. She called me panicked. I told her to not shock the kit with warmth and to slowly warm her up. She put the baby in her bra and then got a warm, not hot, water bottle ready. She held the kit on that for awhile. It took about an hour for the kit to get warmed up. She made it! Sadie was VERY thankful. She usually growls at me when I go into her cage but my mom said that she sniffed the baby and even licked my mom's hand! Then she jumped into the nest box and nursed the babies. |
