No other rabbit's here so not sure why she's doing it. Had to share a pic of my little runt who I am becoming rather attached too, he's looking great today but still so tiny, we have named him Wilber like the runt from Charlottes Webb, probably not smart naming and becoming attached to the runt but I can't help it

I can't help it either. Something about that most vulnerable one makes you feel extra protective. So long as she isn't peeing IN the box (which my daughter had one doe do - regardless of where we moved the box) its a nuisance, not a danger. Hopefully she will get over that as they grow up a little. I tip the nestbox sideways as soon as the first kit jumps out. I've had one too many kits jump out but not figure out how to get back in. All fresh bedding (hay) at that time. Then I leave it that way (often with fresh hay daily as they start eating it about the same time) until they pretty much stop using it (usually by 3 weeks, they are perching on top of it or following mom around). |

Hi Cookie, Congratulations on your litter! They look like they are growing well. Good to see the runt of the litter is holding his/her own. Know how thrilling it was to watch my litter grow. Look forward to updates! KAZ |

Just woke up this morning to find 3 cheeky bunnies out of the nest box, exactly 2 weeks old today but guess who they left behind, poor little Wilbur just isn't quite big enough to get out yet, what was interesting was mum was in the nest box at the time and I assumed she was feeding him but when I looked in no she was just sitting in there with him tucked up next to her. I'll be removing the nest box today, I don't want the runt left alone to chill, he's not as big or furry as the others and when mum jumped out and I checked on him he did feel slightly cool. They were adorable before but even more so now with all their eyes open, don't think I will sell them after all and might just keep them all crazy rabbit lady

lol, I must be a crazy rabbit lady too as my first litter is still here. And the way things worked out, glad they are still hear. Have enjoyed watching them fully develop and watched their individual personalities shine through. All of them are so different from each other. Not crazy, it's tough to watch those sweeties grow and then go off to someone you don't know. It takes an "eye" or "intuition" to know who will best care and enjoy and love your bun. More so if it's going to a pet home. Enjoy your buns! Hope you post more photos as they grow! KAZ |

Can someone help me with a question, the kits are all out of the nest box now and they spend most of their time cuddled up in a corner together but they have moments where they run around and explore but I have noticed when they get near mum she gets spooked by them and jumps away often thumping if they get too close and she doesn't let them nurse either, is this normal and will she still only feed them on her normal schedule and what happens if all the kits aren't in the one place when she does decide to let them nurse, things just got more confusing because it was easy to tell when they were fur less that they were being fed but now the are all furry it's hard to tell |

Sounds like Mom is just setting the rules for the kits, now that they are mobile. Luna did the same thing. She fed them on her terms, not on the kits. If she didn't set the rules, would have a lot of fat sassy kits. Seems like a normal behavior to me. KAZ |

lol - yup - totally normal. Moms freak out when the babies get out of the box. I always leave the box in but tipped sideways so babies can wander in and out -- and most of the moms use the box as a perch to get out of reach. And they definitely don't let the babies make the decision about when to nurse. But with the babies so mobile, once mom decides to declare 'dinnertime' they all come running. |
