Miss Eve is due with her first litter on Saturday! Today is day 28 and she surprised me by beginning to work on her nest immediately! I guess I was expecting she would take after her own dam, who didn't do anything that could be called nesting but dig (and dig and dig). She's the widest Holland I've produced (granted, a BUD - lol), so I'm hopeful that her width will aid in kindling. Here's Eve growing up... Day of birth (Eve is on the far left) 1 Week old 3 Weeks old 5.5 Weeks old As an older junior |

Gorgeous doe, lovely body and bone! I remember her as a baby. ![]() I have my fingers crossed super tight for her. Keep us updated! Who did you breed her to? What colors are you expecting? |

wow - her color sure does seem to shift. I wouldn't have guessed that day old kit to be a tort - and even at a week she was so dark. Fingers crossed for lovely babies! |

I bred her to Coby. Expecting tort and broken tort :). I'm partial to solid tort babies, but I'd also love to get a broken with "interesting" markings. All of mine have had full butterflies and heavy patterns. Yes, she did start out very dark and then lightened up a lot as she went through her uglies. She's pretty dark again now, although sometimes the flash can make her look lighter. Lol - I think she went through the ugliest uglies I have seen. Her bone seemed long and she was in a terrible molt. She was SO orange! |

They are going to make some pretty cute babies Just a question if you don't mind me asking but you mentioned her mother never really built a nest but just dug a lot, our mini lop is doing the same thing, she was digging so much in her cage that I thought I'd put the nest box in a bit early (day 26) to see what she did but she just dug like crazy until all the nesting material was thrown everywhere, I removed the nest box once I realized she wasn't using it and today is day 28 and I haven't seen her carry one piece of hay yet, so was just wondering what happened to your doe, did she end up nesting really late or not at all and you needed to intervene. I will put the box back in today and hope for the best Good luck with your litter and hope you don't mind me crashing your thread with questions |

I don't mind at all, Cookie! Eve's mom, Lilah, began digging in the corner of her cage the day after I bred her. Towards the end of her pregnancy, I moved her from her wire cage into a solid-bottomed cage for kindling. I do this with all of my first-time Holland does. In that cage, she seemed to be digging incessantly, so I gave her the nest box a few days early as you did. When she didn't show any interest, I went ahead and took it out and gave it back on day 28, with pine shavings on the bottom and stuffed with hay. She would occasionally dig in the box, but mostly just ignored it. Never carried hay around box or anything. On day 31, she kindled 3 kits on the floor of her cage, right next to her nest box, in the spot that she had been digging in. I moved the kits to the box and covered them with some fur that I had saved from another doe who was having a false pregnancy. The NEXT day, she pulled a ton of fur. Her next litter, the exact same thing happened. Digging throughout her whole pregnancy, showing no interest in the box, kits born on the cage floor, fur pulled after kindling. (Eve was born in this litter.) Her first time, I almost questioned whether she was really pregnant because of her lack of nesting instincts, but she had palpated positive and I could see her kits moving inside her. So I was pleasantly surprised to see Eve nesting today! |

Thank you so much for the reply, I put the nest box in and she ignored it, done some digging and made a mess Arragggh any way a few hrs later I notice her acting a bit crazy and yep sure enough mouthfuls of hay all be carried into the nest box, I have never actually seen this in person only in video's but omg a bunny nesting has to be the cutest thing ever now just hoping she continue's being a good mum and pulls hair. Thanks again |

I think she's getting closer! She's been nesting a lot, and pulled a bunch of fur early this morning... I hope you wake up to a warm wiggly surprise in the nest box! |
