With the C from his mom, his hidden C-gene came from his sire, but it could be either of his sire's C-genes. So if sire is chlc, then he is hiding either chl or c -- 50-50 chance which. |

I now know who I'll be keeping and selling. After evaluating all three, reviewing pictures etc. Ash I thought was going to be the keeper can't pose, his head is unable to sit up like it should and after lots of practice he just can't pose. He has long shoulders and long midsection. His ears when relaxed lay great but after another look, they are long, he will be pet out. Kona is nice all except her pinched hindquarters so shouldn't breed her. She will be sold as a nice brood doe. So the keeper is Spook! He is really nicely balanced over all. He might have slight ear control like his sire but if he does, it's very minor. I'll post pictures tomorrow of all three!

Here they are at almost 11 weeks old! Pick of the litter and the one I'll be growing out is: Spook (little black buck)! Ash (sable point) will be sold as a pet and Kona will most likely be sold as a brood. I will start with Spook first. What I like most about him is he is nicely balanced all around. I really love the shape of his ears, placement and length. He has good distance between his eyes and will develop a nice head. His shoulders are nice and wide and from what I can feel and see, they are short and not long (what do you think?). Also, I think his body length is good for the breed (I'm still learning length of body and length of shoulders)? Spook has great bone, nice and short. Time will tell how he develops his skirt on his hindquarters, curvature of the skull, depth, and fullness of crown. From what I can feel of his hindquarters, the fact that his hind legs, when resting naturally when he is flipped over, do not lay in a V but are straight and lined up with his hips, that he does not have a pinched hindquarter. He is the runt of the litter so he still needs to fill out more. Spook will be a small buck like his sire, he is just now reaching 2lbs. I will be breeding Spook to his mom in the spring and to one of his half siblings (Silva's kits) this fall. I apologize for my hands being in all these pictures but I was trying to take a pic by myself one handed with wiggly, busy 10 week olds lol! Shoulder length: long shoulders refers to the amount of space between the neck and back correct? So if a Holland has long shoulders then it would exhibit some space between the neck and back. You want zero spacing between the back and head correct? ![]() ![]() He is resting here, not holding his head up higher.. too busy with exploring lol ![]() Next up is Ash. I have a hunch that he will be just over 4lbs as an adult. His body is long, ears are longer, long shoulders (from what I can tell) and his bone is massive. He can not go into a pose at all, just not possible. You can see this in the pictures below, he just lifts his head up. I also noticed he has a more curved back to. Ash is very, very sweet buck so he would make a great pet. I do love his clean color, hope to get clean color with great type LOL ![]() ![]() ![]() Below you can see the more curved back: ![]() So now it leaves me Kona. So here is a fun question: Do you still think she is a seal? I ask because her fur is changing to the lighter Siamese Sable body color on her chest and flanks. She went from almost jet black (as she could get) to now she is lightening up.. much like her sire did. What I love about Kona is her head, she is going to have a massive head as an adult. Her ears aren't the best, a little long, not exactly teaspoon shaped and slightly slipped. She does have great bone and I'm not entirely sure if she has pinched hindquarters (see pics). She too can not pose very well like Ash, she is a little bit better but I think again this is due to length in body and long shoulders. She would make a great brood doe, especially for a shaded program, just not going to keep her because her mom has better type. ![]() She just can't get into a natural pose like her brother Spook (comes natural to him). Love her head though! ![]() ![]() ![]() Here is her back end and a pic of her feet when laying on her back: ![]() ![]() Here they are all together! ![]() ![]() |

Wow, I love Spook! He is promising for sure! He is young still and has some growing to do like you said, but I agree with pretty much everything you said about him. He looks to have a nice, short body. He does pose very nicely ![]() Kona - her HQ will probably be narrower (than Spook's) but I wouldn't really consider that pinched. |

ok thanks! I'm just extra cautious about pinched HQ because I know their sire is a little pinched. Yes, I really do love Spook! I thought I would be selling him but he just needed a little more time to grow
