2 kits born yesterday!! So excited to finally have a litter live past birth! This is with a proven doe we got from another breeder. She pulled A LOT of hair. So much so that we weren't sure there were any babies in there. We had to really hunt to find them. They're in a climate controlled space, how likely are they to overheat? I seriously think she pulled enough to nest an entire army of bunnies. |

Congrats on the kits! It's always exciting to have a healthy litter, but especially your first! Some does pull a lot of fur. Some even pull days after kindling! I keep all of my litters in our basement, so it's climate controlled like your space. I rarely remove fur from the nest box, as the kits will usually wiggle around enough to "customize" their nest and push the fur down. As long as you leave enough for them to be totally covered up, it should be fine to remove some if you feel that they are too hot. If you do, make sure to save it! When the kits are older, they will start to crawl up on top of the fur if they are warm. Good luck!! |

Kits will cover and uncover themselves as need be to. It's cute to see them all spread out (on hot days) in the nest box then all snuggly covered up by nightfall

One of my girls pulls an absolutely ridiculous amount of fur. I usually take some out and save it, either for after I clean out her nest box or just if I ever have a doe that doesn't feel like pulling enough fur. Congrats on the babies! We would love to see pictures.
