I was thinking, I know it's been done before but to post day by day pics of shaded Holland Lops to give a more detailed look into how rare shaded colors develop. I know starting out, I searched for newborn pics and though I did find some a lot of pics are of day 0 or day 1 then skip to almost or at a week old. I know with Siamese Sable, the color changes so much between day 0 and a week old! Little Mocha turned into a beautiful blue then over night changed to a dark gray.. it was really puzzling and fun to see this color change so much! So I thought why not post day by day pics of Silvia's new litter since she has such a variety of color! So onto the fun!

Silvia was bred to my Siamese Sable buck: Hershey. Silvia is a solid sable point doe. Colors expected are: Siamese Sable, Seal, Sable point Rew OR Pointed white (I do not know what Silvia's hidden C gene is). Kits where born on: March 19th, 2015! Right now I can only guess as to what possible colors are in this litter but I know the dark (black looking kit) is a seal as Tort and Black are not possible with this breeding. My guess is: At least One Siamese Sable (possibly two), maybe one sable point and of course we have our seal. That leaves two kits I am unsure of yet but we shall see with time!

Meet the parents!

So here are the kits pictured at day 0.
Without flash: Kit in the far left side of pic I think is a Siamese Sable, kit right next to it I think is a sable point, kit in the middle I think is possibly another Siamese Sable or sable point, kit at the end on the right not sure. Kit on the very bottom (darkest one) is a seal. :)

Day 1

Here they are on day 1! One of the pink kits has turned darker, I suspect it is a sable point, no signs of shading on the flanks yet but if it does develop shading on the flanks (will know in a few days) then it is a sable point! The last remaining pink kit has zero signs of any color at all, very very pink again just have to wait a couple more days! I hope it is either a rew or better yet a pointed white!

From left to right: Seal, Siamese Sable, Siamese Sable (most likely), unknown (maybe Rew or pointed), and possible Sable point (last one on the right)

Here is the really pink kit, it is the "ham" of the litter lol So chunky!

Day 2!

The two Siamese Sables are turning a blue gray already! One of the Siamese Sables has a little more brown mixed in. Seal is darkening up. The kit that was pink when born then turned gray.. is lighter gray than the Siamese Sables, it is lighter more silvery gray.. no shading on flanks yet. Saved the best for last! Looks like the pink kit is either a Rew or Pointed White!!! I hope it has qualities worth breeding for as a Rew or Pointed White would really be nice to keep.

Left to Right: Siamese Sable, Siamese Sable, Seal, lighter gray/mystery kit, and a Rew or Pointed White!

Day 3

The Siamese Sables continue to stay a blue gray color. From what I've read, if the white kit is a himi (pointed white) it's points (first showing up on the tail) should start to appear at around 7 days old.

Left to Right: white kit, mystery kit, Siamese Sable (has more brown in coat), Siamese Sable and Seal

Day 4

Kits were really active this morning and everyone of them decided to pee so picture isn't as good and I hate using my camera on my phone.. it doesn't like to focus on moving objects very well without using the flash. :-P Seal is really dark, looks just like a black.

Left to Right:: Siamese Sable, Seal, Mystery Kit, Rew or Himi, Siamese Sable

This truly is a magnificent idea that could help so many people out in determining colors! I have always found it to be VERY hard to find anyone posting results like this for showing how colors can progress! I think you would be doing a wonderful thing here Volz83 :woohoo!: My last lop litter had a strange sort of fawn that was what seemed like a pearl for the first 2 days or so which I had never seen with fawn babies before...I am still not sure what color genes it carried that would have caused this in particular maybe it was Aa-Bb-cchdcchl-dd-ee??...no idea for sure! :wall:

Awesome idea -- looking forward to watching with you.

When you have the series done, be sure to go back and add the best pictures (the ones that most clearly show the color development for each color) into the Color Guide subforum!!!

Will do Neubunny! It really is hard finding day by day pics of different colors developing. I know most breeders just wait until it's very obvious but I like to learn how the colors actually change day by day. Pics of day 1 are up!

It is Sidd! By the way Neubunny, once it is obvious what color the kits are (guessing for the most part right now as they develop), I will make a post in the color guild subforum with their colors already known then it will be better put together that way. ^_^

Thanks! But unfortunately Silvia attacked two of the kits :( Went to check on them, heard one of the kits screaming, found fresh and dried blood on one of the Siamese sables, it started to die :( Found my mystery kit with dried blood but thankfully alive tho it cries in pain if moved. Decided to bring box in and only take out twice a day for nursing. What do I do when there eyes open up and are mobile? I won't leave them alone with her. Just bring them in her cage to nurse and keep them in separate cage? Will have to wean early at 4 weeks old and then will sell Silvia.

forgot to mention that the seal, white and remaining Siamese Sable are fine. Just checked up on mystery kit and it's ok, sleeping well. The other Siamese Sable died fairly quickly so I assume this guy will hopefully make it. It might be just dried blood from Siamese Sable and mightjust have superficial wunds, no body parts missing, no fresh blood. SStupid doe

Remaining four are doing great, mom just fed them. Mystery kit fed with no issues. Silvia is very skittish still so will not keep kits with her. And the white kit is a pointed white!! Gray showed up on the top of it's tail! I sprained my arm today, in a sling but I'll get a pic of them hopefully tomorrow. Have to clean up the dried blood on the mystery kit. If it's a doe andsurvives, I'll name it Hope. I will be keeping my pointed white buck!

so sorry for the extra double posts, I'm on pain meds :(
