I bred a blue rex doe with a red eyed white buck and got 3 kits that i am not sure about. They are either 2 normal blues and the lighter color being self blue chin or smoke pearl.. Some more info about the parents: The doe aaBb_ddEe Pp is a chocolate, tort and lutino carrier. I knew that she carried a c-recessive because she has produced a white lutino before she came to me, but since my bucks are all C fullcolor, i never got any recessives until now. I purposely got a rew buck to testbreed with her and find her recessive but now i am even more confused and everyone i asked doesnt know either,. The kits are 2 darker blue, 1 light blue, and 1 black. All are vienna marked so the rew buck is also a vienna carrier which was a surprise. ![]() ![]() ![]() Light Blue #1. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Dark Blue #2. ![]() Dark blue #3 ![]() ![]() ![]()

The light one really looks lilac to me... which is possible if the REW buck is carrying a chocolate gene. Self chins aren't usually that much lighter. It might be a smoke pearl - but that would mean your mother has to be Cchl ... and you said she has thrown a white lutino in a previous litter (which means she is more likely Cc). Yes, surprising not to get a REW breeding Cc to cc, but it happens (odds of not getting REW is 6% on 4 kits). If it is a smoke pearl, that will become more obvious as it grows - ears and nose will get darker and the main body lighter but sometimes they have to molt their baby coats before it becomes really obvious. Other stray thought ... could she be the vienna carrier? If so, the previous white lutino could have been a genetic BEW (pretty sure lutino, like REW, is epistatic to vienna and will turn the blue eyes to pink). Edited by NeuBunny, Sep 1 2016, 07:45 AM.

The buck doesnt carry chocolate. I got all blacks bred with a chocolate doe. The kit may look lilac on the picture but its different from lilac as i have several lilacs. The doe doesnt carry rew but either chin or sable and most likely it is chin because her siblings have produced a sallander. With a white lutino i mean broken white with a creme hue and light cream shimmer around the muzzle. I assume it was a self chocolate chinchilla lutino as it erases yellow pigment and leaves a white lutino that looks like a fals rew. The previous owner bred that baby by breeding the doe back to her sire. I only bred this doe with CC bucks so i got C color babies until now. I looked at smoke.pearl pictures and they are lighter and more patchy than my baby who doesnt have darker points, just overall a lighter shade than its siblings which nakes me assume its chin but i am not certain. The vienna comes from the rew buck. i have not had any vienna forst the past 3 years. This is the white lutino kit i told about ![]() This is the blue rex doe

That's about the best definition of the difference between smoke pearl and blue self chin there is...the blue self chins often darken to the point one really can't tell them apart from blue - just a little bit lighter and sometimes (not always) with opposite eye colors (brown eyes on a blue self chin or blue-grey eyes on a black self chin) or a hint of ruby cast. |
