Not websites in general, but just rabbitry ones, what are your pet peeves, and also, what do you like them to look like?

I want to redo mine a little, get all new pictures up for all of the rabbits, and I want to know what looks good, and professional, also what you're opinions are on rabbit based websites.

Here are mine:

  • Unorganized home pages.
  • Home pages that we loaded with information, when the information could be put somewhere else
  • Rabbit that are no posed right (mainly only bugs me when it's my own site, idc about other peoples bunnies not being posed  )
  • People who leave "SOLD" up for months. Seriously, a week is fine. I take mine off right away.
There are a few more, but I don't want to offend anyone :shy:

What I LOVE!!!

  • I love rabbit pictures with flowers, or a fence in the background.
  • Rabbit blogs linked somewhere
  • A nice clean layout with not a whole lot of clutter
  • An organized site
  • Baby pictures!!!! So cute.
  • People who do a link exchange, and actually add the links

Pet Peeves

-I don't know why but I can't stand websites with "Testimonials". It feels like you're not confident that your rabbits can speak for themselves (so to speak) so you need other people to brag about them for you.

-Having absolutely no pictures (why have a website)

-Websites where the breeder states they have show quality rabbits when A.) They're obviously not show quality B.) They also do not show their rabbits.

-Clutter!

-Excessive bragging! A little is okay but I don't need to know every good thing a judge has ever said about the rabbit.

-It hasn't been updated in 10 years.

-Spell checker
-Posed & unposed pictures
-Websites where people actually put an effort into it to make it look good.

Clutter isn't great, but my website is clutterful!

I like posed photos, professionalism, and beautiful bunnies. It is annoying when you see a website hasn't been updated in a long time or when they don't have any photos of their rabbits. I'm not picky with websites.

I don't like to see spelling/punctuation errors, inconsistent layout (for example, if someone puts two pictures of one rabbit stacked and then for the next rabbit puts the pictures side by side.. I don't know how explain this), too many pages.. I could go on and on. I'm pretty OCD about these kinds of things so I like everything to be neat, tidy, consistent and easy to follow. I'm not too picky about others' websites though.

And of course I love to see nice pictures of bunnies!

Pet peeves:
-Little information
-Terrible pictures
-Information all over the page
-Hard to navigate
-Illiterate people posting all the info
-Pictures that take forever to load
-Eye-burning layouts

Likes:
-Clean
-Direct
-Proper grammar
-Good photos
-Photo galleries (of each rabbit, so we can see more then the one side)
-Easy-on-the-eyes layout

My website is the example of what I like, it's clean, direct, easy to navigate, nice photo galleries, and a great layout

I usually don't like it when websites have really dark layouts. Sometimes it's okay, but usually if the background colors are too dark I find it just doesn't look good. I also hate when people don't use proper terms on their websites, like girl, boy, Albino .... that one gets me everytime

I like when websites havea nice light, clean looking background.
Nice clear, properly posed pictures
lots of information, without going on for days
Theres lots more but most of them were already said :)

i pretty much agree with everything that's posted. lol I am so picky about my website.... hopefully there are minimal complaints about it! haha!

Not sure i missed this, but another thing I don't like is when there are like a rainbow of different colors in the text.... use black or white or grey please. Titles, links and importants things that are colored don't buck me, but when every line or paragraph is like a different color.... sheesh.

There are a lot of kids (10-13) that make their own website. I just want to pay them to let me redo their whole website. I told a child the other day his site was nice but he needs to have posed pictures and a little bit of info about each rabbit.

I love to see parent info and mini bios, saves me time on questions about a particualar rabbit

My biggest problem with most websites is they are either out dated or the links don't work any more.

Just a few random things...

I like to see the sire and dam listed. Rabbits deff need to be posed. I also really appreciate an "about us" page. That's usually the first thing I click. I think knowing about the owner lends some credibility to the rabbitry, and we all know how important that is.

just a query. why would someone have to have "posed pictures"?

Just pictures of your rabbits. who really cares if they are posed properly or not? If you are buying a rabbit and want a posed picture ASK for one. A website is meant to be informative and inviting.

Yes, a website should be informative, and a posed picture informs you of the quality of the animals, which most breeders are very interested in. I think "cute" pictures are nice, too. They add to the "inviting" effect. But if they breed show rabbits, I think they should provide posed pictures.

A good website can be educational. I have found that browsing through breeder's websites is a great chance to practice my critiquing and color ID skills.

To me it looks more professional. When I see posed pictures, I think that person knows their breed, and knows what they're doing. It's not a necessity, but, I like posed pictures.

If only my rabbits would cooperate enough to take posed pictures

I love cute pictures though!! I try doing them for pet buyers, to show the cute factor.

Regarding spelling, I hate seeing poor spelling too, but other than copying everything into ms word and running a spell check, is there an easy way to run a spell check on a web page? I hate reading spelling errors elsewhere, but then I worry I probably have them too :shy:

Dumb question, but what's a "posed picture" for a running breed such as Tan?
