We have a Chinchilla Jersey Wooly who on Monday night had 3 DOA's. She is still pulling hair in her nest box. It has been a day and 1/2, could she possibly have another baby or is she pulling hair for the dead babies even though we removed them. She pulled more hair tonight then for the other 3 babies. Trying to figure out if I should remove the nest box.
Thanks,
Christy

I would go ahead and rebreed her, and remove the nest box. My does tend to keep pulling fur after they lose their litters. I'm not sure why, they're just crazy. Sometimes I even had a doe have her litter fine, then keep pulling for the entire next week until their neck to tail is absolutely naked.

I had a doe who was bred but didn't take keep digging at the nestbox trying to make a nest over a month after she was bred.

If it were me I would leave it in with her. It won't hurt. And maybe she will have another baby or two, weird stuff like that can happen!

I agree with Megan - I would remove the nestbox and rebreed her. No sense in leaving it in there. I really doubt she has any more kits in her -- if in doubt, palpate her and see if you feel anything.

I had a doe deliver 3 DOAs and then two days later 3 more, but I had removed the nesting box and they were born on the wire in our AC-ed Bunny Barn so they died. I would leave it in there for a few more days...can't hurt anything. Palpate...if you feel nothing and think she is just pulling to pull re breed. :)

This is very interesting. I've just had my first doe ever continue to pull fur two days after producing two doa. I knew a woman who bred spaniels whose brat produced a dead pup and three days later two living so I was hopeful with the doe but not to be.
