I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way lol. I live in an area with NO rabbit breeders... not to mention NONE with my breeds at all. We traveled down to TN and Alabama one weekend and I took a BOS in Show A, and that buck then got 2nd in his class. He's a very nice animal.

And I travel to Michigan to show against people... so i spend LOTS of money to make it fair and not stack the tables. And did great at Nationals, but when I don't have a group of friends an hour away and sanction every show and load the tables my efforts are mute. I've a just turned senior buck with 7 or 8 junior legs under him. Some from BOB... but it doesn't matter in sweepstakes when other ppl are just stacking lol.

the main breed that I do pay attention to points is 6 for first in class and thne 4 for 2nd and so on. And then BOB is like 1 point x number of rabbits....and BOS is .5 x number or rabbits. Or something like that.

should divide it by number of rabbits you have entered or something lol.
Gorby, I feel your pain. This past weekend, I travelled 600 miles each way to a show in Bloomington, IL to get into some competition. 286 miles is the shortest distance I will travel to a show this year, and given the choice, I'd rather have the judges at the northern shows than many of the certified & licensed misfits passing themselves off as judges down here, none of which know their bung hole from a hole in the ground when it comes to the breed I exhibit anyway.

Several clubs DO have quality point systems in addition to the regular sweeps. Some clubs add quality points on to the regular ones, like BOB is an extra 1 point per rabbit you beat, and BOS an extra 1/2 point.

That's how the one club I'm in does it......but still easy to 'cheat'.

Michigan would be a little out of the way for me other than a convention or national specialty show. I live in Arkansas, and the Bloomington show was 580 miles one way from my home. That amounted to 20 hours of driving round trip.

If it all plays out to where I can do so, I will be at the Peoria show in mid-November. Alot of things have to fall in place for it to happen, though. I simply do not travel to a show if I don't have a night to stay over either going or coming, and that is going to hinge on time off at work.

I can drive all night one way to get there or come back, but having previously done both on the same trip without staying overnight, all I can say is that I won't do it again. I will get a motel room somewhere along the way. It's just too dangerous not to do so.

Bumper, it needs to be 2 separate contests though. Nearly anytime they try and add it into the existing sweeps contests, all it does is water down the accomplishments of winning a BOB or BOS while over-glorifying a bunch of 2nd thru 5th place finishes in 5-7 rabbit classes.

Our long-since defunct state association did it about 30 years ago. It worked in recognizing both groups, and I will flatly tell you that winning the quality points contests ultimately meant more to breeders.

I would never be able to go to one that far. Our trip to TN and AL was more then enough driving. Should have stayed the night after the shows.

Yeah, I have to work this weekend and cannot make the show over in Murfreesboro, TN, just south of Nashville. It's too bad, as I really like the drive to/from TN shows. My next show won't be until October 8th at the Tulsa State Fair. My falls are busy times around where I work, and I'm very limited on where I can go and when I can go.

Our state club does have a separate quality points. I dunno, I guess to me the regular points meant more, though. The people that won quality points were the people that always had the fun of BOB/BOS and BIS anyway.

I hear you. What I normally try to do is get the day off after the show, as it tends to work better for me. After the show is over, I simply get back on the road and drive until sundown, then find a cheap motel room along the route which accepts animals (the regional travel coupon books which you'll find at restaurants and gas stations are GREAT for this!). The 2-3 hours I drive the evening of the show is 2-3 hours less that I'd have to drive the next day, saying nothing of the mileage involved. It just makes for a shorter final day of driving on the return home.

I agree with you guys That it seems like you have to go to a lot of shows plus show a lot of rabbits just to place high. And that can become very costly to try to place high in points. One thing I like how Dutch club runs part if there. I am not sure if others have this but they have rabbit of the year. It is based off of each rabbit. So if you have some really nice Dutch/rabbit you get recognized for those rabbits as well.
