Wouldn't mind a few critiques. The second doe would NOT relax so her pics are terrible... and didn't realize my camera was sitting sideways on the darn tripod =( But here are a few pics of the 2 new girls. They were born 3 days apart in late april of this year. Doe One: she is larger bodied then the other doe, but not as filled out: ![]() bottom: - platform she's on is slightly on a slope too. I need to invest in a grooming table ![]() Doe Two: ![]() ![]() I think she's built like a bulldog, or I'm used to no meat harlies... I may name her meatloaf! ![]() Edited by GorbyJobRabbits, Sep 19 2011, 11:06 AM.

They're both a little long in the shoulders (they also could be posed a little tighter) so overall they're both really really promising, and their colouring is really nice too. |

Thanks! The judge that actually judged in the show didn't really like the coloring? The older doe is def lighter, but she's over a year old now. And she did have a few negative comments, and when she gave BOB to her over these 2 I really questioned it. I'm obviously no expert, but they're just way more filled out, and didnt have as many negative comments. And the one I do remember is she didnt like the coat. But these 2 arn't even 5 months yet. When I had another judge just scan them over for me, he said the older doe you could tell was more broody and pointed out different reasons why he said that. And did give these 2 nice comments. I'm anxious to see how they do this weekend against others =) and will be picking up 2 more! plus some other surprise buns. =) |

I've never read the ARBA standard for Argents but the DRCBA standard and the BRC standard call for distinctly darker points (nose, eyes, ears, feet, tail) and an even silver (chocolate, black, blue, lilac, creme, chestnut) in colour with longer, dark (chocolate, black, blue, lilac, creme, chestnut) guard hairs are to be evenly interspersed over the whole pelt. I like the colouring on yours and they would do well colour wise up here. |

I too think their color is to dark. But they are only 5months old so they could still lighten up a lot.

I like number 2 the best. She has a better hindquarter and is more filled out in the midsection/hindquarter. They are both also very long in shoulders, but they may grown into them! They are both very promising though. Also I would say the color is too dark. I know the judges around my area like the lighter Champagnes.

would it be where they're 4 months? They are shedding... and the face isn't totally filled in. I'm just very lost on the coat chaging. LOL. The doe I had before was pretty much the same lines, and since I know Emily talks with him, they've got LOTS of fisher lines in the background. The older doe has some Planks, I'll get her pic tomorrow, you can just tell she's got the baby figure now lol. |

It just depends on the judge. Some like their color to be dark and some like it light. You will just have to see what the judges have to say around your area. Then you will get a better idea of what they like! I go for the lighter Champs since that's what the judges here in Washington like more. |

I do like the doe in my avatar more. She was very light. But she was older when I got her as well. There will be 2 breeders at the show this weekend so I'll get to see what their rabbits look like and get a nice comparison on age. |

I'm going to post picture examples of which ones win here:![]() Maple Bacon always beats out his competition pretty much on colour alone even though this is a baby pic he kept that dark colouring. Where as this doe despite having a body to die for always get's penalized on how light she is: Frenchtard always gets comments on how great her colouring is (From not only Ontario Judges but ARBA judges as well) Where as her daughter Cinderellie who is currently 5 months (picture from 4). Always gets penalized on how light she is: |

Thanks! so essentially it'll depend on how the judge interprets the color? And is it just genetics, or any other factors that determine color? I hate discussing other breeders who can't defend theirselves, but I am saying NOTHING bad about any of his buns, so I've made an exception. The 2 does above, and this one: ![]() are all out of pretty much the same lines. The 2 above are darker, Beth here is lighter. So are there other factors besides genetics that determine color on these guys? I'm sorry for being a pain with all the questions. |
