Essentially it is up to the judges interpretation of the colour. Most know that the Jr's should not be heavily penalized for being dark because they are still getting their silver in (most forget this though.) In our standard it states this "Colour to have very little bearing when judging juniors. Health, condition and meat qualities to be of prime consideration. Fur to be considered only when all else is equal." Colour is genetic and there really isn't much you can do about it since the dark guys can produce lighter and the lighter ones can produce darker rabbits. I think I need to pick up an ARBA standard just to see how it differs from ours. |

It's similar. Hold on and I can type it out for you Pre-Juniors - Fur is to be considered ONLY in case of a tie. Color is not to be considered. Points are not to count for display. Then later it mentioned color: Body color is to be a bluish white. the whole body is to be moderately and evenly interpersed with longer jet black hairs, giving an old silver effect when viewed from a distance. The fur is to have a rich gloss. The nose and muzzle are to be slightly darker then the body color to form the butterfly, which is characteristic of the bred. head and ears are to match body color as closely as possible. Undercolor is to be dark slate blue, carried as deep down the hair shaft as possible, with allowances for fading in seniors showing age. Fault - lack of jet black hairs, brassiness, faded undercolor, butterfly too dark, too dark or light in body color, head and ears dark in color, but allowing for slightly heavier pigmentation when combined with a good dark undercolor. and fur is worth 15 points and color is 20 Edited by GorbyJobRabbits, Sep 16 2011, 09:06 AM.

When I read the ARBA standard I interpret the rabbit to look like this![]() His nose and muzzle are darker then his body, and he is a bluish white. |

Are those your Champagnes? I'm really liking the color on the brood doe!! Doe number 2 is a touch too dark for me and doe number 1 her face seems a little too dark but depending on how old they are that will probably change! (I'm sure you said how old they are but I can't remember things like that) ![]() It's hard to know what the happen medium is... it seems like the most important thing I have heard judges say is the under color. You want the under color to be bold and not faded away. So if they are light with the silvering but dark in the under color, I say that's perfect for me. Also with age, Champagnes due get lighter. I had a doe once that was so light she was pretty much white, her under color was really nonexistent. But that's common and usually faulted on. The thing is, I don't know if you have dark Champagnes until they are a senior and on, if they will lighten up heavenly. Like they do when you have lighter colored Champagnes as a senior. I hope that made sense

same two girls, tried to pose them up better and I held the camera instead of on the slope on the tripod, had hoped it would help. They do look a bit lighter, and they're shedding bad. They'll be 5 months on the 26th... so its probs just the age. I do have to say I LOVE those enormous goofy ears on the 2 young does. Just love them. thanks all of you again for your help, means a lot

My friend Beth and her son Jake, just helped me get a start with a few more Champagnes I picked up at their show yesterday!!! This is the buck they gave me. He is solid as a rock! He'll be 4 in March, but he's just rock solid: ![]() ![]() ![]() The 2 young does I got. This one was born May 28 ![]() and Beth Too... who was born July 3rd ![]() ![]() and... I think she needs more weight around her back, im hoping that switching from 16 to 18% feed is going to help with that.

To be honest I really don't like the buck. REALLY long in shoulders, but has a decent hindquarter. Nice coloring on him! For the first doe it's hard to tell on her, I really like the hindquarter and her coloring. Second doe needs to have her hind feet posed back a little bit. Seems to have nice shoulders, and I love the coloring on her for her age! She also needs more fullness over the hindquarter. All in all not too bad! The buck may not be the best but he may produce nice kits! |

He's out of super nice lines. I assume one of the first Jake had. He's got a couple of BOBs under him, and jake just gave him.... Also, the posing, how off is it? I just noticed quite a few had long shoulders, so I thought I'd ask if its partially my posing too! Thanks for the comments Emily =) |

The posing isn't off too bad! Just make sure next time that their feet are directly in line with the front of their hips! After I keep looking at the last doe, I'm really starting to like her more and more. Keep posting pictures of her as she grows!
