There is one Harlequin breeder I refuse to buy from. I have inquired twice. The first time, I was going to pick a buck up & no response. The second time, just recently, she sells them without telling me after she said she would let me know. She is weird. I am not mentioning names. Some people So are there some breeders you don't like to deal with? If so, why? Please no mentioning names, I don't want to start arguements.

Yep - there definitely are some breeders! I once bought a trio of rabbits from a breeder, I liked them but had problems with all of the rabbits. One doe, I never got a live litter out of and the poor doe had problems with ever kindling. One of the other rabbits I got from her sneezed within an hour of being home. There are also breeders I just don't trust, knowing some backgrounds that I will never buy from. I am just too paranoid and pre-cautious about what I bring into my rabbitry. I think I know who we are talking about. I wouldn't buy rabbits from her either, she is just rude & dishonest & she has a habit of talking behind peoples backs. & the other person is sketchy too. I would avoid her at all costs. |

Ya! There are breeders that I will not sell to either, because of what I have heard, or dealt with in the past. I would never do anything along the lines of being dishonest or anything to a buyer because of how fast stuff goes around. I always make sure I am honest when selling, and make sure to let them know to email me if they have any issues so we can figure something out. |

I don't think it's fair to judge an entire forum based off of one topic that only two members have posted in. Also, I'm pretty sure I know who you guys are talking about, and I would like to advice you to please stop. Edited by fuzzypatch, Feb 10 2012, 04:49 PM.

This topic is not conducive to the Rabbit Addict Forum at all.... there is no purpose to it. People who are participating in this forum should have a positive energy and create and maintain a positive environment for our fellow rabbit enthusiasts... |

hmm... my thought is perhaps the whole story isn't known? Perhaps the breeder had a reason not to sell those rabbits to you? I figure there is often two sides to every interaction and unless you know the ins and outs from both sides that there are too many unknowns. I assume that many breeders have people they don't buy from OR that they aren't willing to sell to. Some breeders won't sell to the pet crowd because for a variety of reasons. Some breeders kill everything they won't keep themselves. Some breeders have a very select group of people that they will buy from or sell to. Some breeders work very hard to either only sell to the pet crowd OR to sell their rabbits outside of the area they show in. There is such a huge variety in how people market/manage their herds that giving the benefit of the doubt is often a good thing. ![]() So turning this into a positive thing potentially learning from thing: What are some of the reasons you choose, or don't choose.. to sell rabbits to people? if you choose to sell pets .. why? If you choose NOT to sell pets..why? Do you only sell to breeder homes? Why? Do you sell everything you produce you don't want to keep? Do you have policy of first come first served? Do you have people you would not choose to market your animals to? What do you do with stock you don't want to keep? Has that turned this conversation over a bit now?

I think everyone took my reply, and possibly the poster out of context! I was not trying to offend anyone, or cause a negative environment in anyway! I was simply sharing my experiences, and stating why I would be upfront with people. I apologize if it came out wrong, and it wont happen again! I think the biggest thing is talking to the breeder before making assumptions about them On the other note, I hate the bad feeling you get from a phone call or email from someone interested in a rabbit. The feeling you get when you really dont think that they should be owning rabbits! I often don't sell to anyone like that. Just my personal opinion! I do sell to pet homes if I get a good vibe from the buyer. I love to sell a rabbit to a good home where I know it is going to be spoiled, because I dont have a use for them. I would also obviously sell to breeders homes. I sell the rabbits I am not keeping, one way or the other. I have just recently started to find the raw dog food crowd, and I cull all my unwanted rabbits that are not selling to them. It works for me! Some people dont market to young buyers, although I do as long as I am certain the parents are going to be the rabbits main care giver. I also offer a "take back" policy for pet buyers. No one is pulling anything out of context. Using our assumptions about why this topic was created has nothing to do with the "use" of it. It's useless and definitely could start drama if it already hasn't. This is a place for learning and education. So something more or less like what I am about to say would be more proper, as well as stating something, it is also helping lesser experienced breeders learn from someone elses mistakes and experience. Over the years and with experience I have learned which individuals and characters I choose to sell to, I think everyone has a sense of who someone is, how they will treat the rabbit (even from how they maintain their own cleanliness, to how they carry themselves verbally and their over all image, not that those are the only criteria, just some very nit picky ones!). Now that I have cemented a bond with a few reliable breeders, I don't sell to anyone else very much, unless they show a sincere want for my rabbits. Breeders really have to be careful about who they sell to, and how experienced with rabbits they are, I've noticed this in the past, as well have experienced it myself, that breeders, mainly youth (not discriminating though) tend to act irrationally and make assumptions about a rabbits condition and health and the motives of the breeder who sold it them. Many of these rabbits who have been sold had nothing wrong with them and was a result of lack of experience and knowledge in rabbits by the person who purchased. It's a really touchy subject, because I know many breeders who have had their reputations wrecked because of malicious false accusations against them. So as a breeder, I recommend that everyone choose wisely to whom they sell to, raking in a couple dollars quick is not worth the price you pay when either your reputation is in detriment or your rabbit goes to a home where it will not be properly taken care of and it's needs will not be met. |

So anyways. How about good things you look for in a breeder when purchasing? I prefer breeders who will be honest about the quality of the rabbit, and just being friendly is always a big plus

I'm going to have to close this topic. If you want to further this discussion, create a new post with new wording. Also, Lovestruck and Jesse. No more posts like this, ok? You both were sitting right next to each other, which makes it obvious to me what your intentions were. No more. |
