My father was loading wood logs onto a porter on a piece of land across from a camp ground. When he picked up one bunch of logs with the graple he saw a rabbits nest of white fur. He put the wood back down where it had been so the babies would be safe from predators. We went back up this evening to check up on them and a stray cat had eaten some of them, two kits remained, we knew we couldn't leave them there to be eaten alive so we took them home. I have them in a shoe box with cotton balls and a heating pad under the box. They're domestic rabbits, broken blacks. I don't have any does that I can foster them too, but I do have a cat who had kittens a few days ago and has lots of milk. Is it possible to get her to nurse the kits? We just tried, and no luck, but the kits have full bellies right now, they must have been fed this morning by the dam, but are there any tricks to making this work, or is it hopeless? If not the cat, what else can I give them, and how? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. EDIT: I found this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=04RZrf3-Mgo Makes me a little more hopeful. No idea if a cat could nurse them but I have heard that milk from herbivores like goats or sheep milk is the best. I bottle fed a baby with sheep milk powder at double concentrate with good luck. |

I have heard of some people putting thin cloth over the mouth of the syringe so they can suck it from the cloth rather than just hoping they'll eat it when you push it out. |

Just an update. I lost one of the kits yesterday morning. So sad to see such an innocent little thing die before it even lived. On the up side the remaining kit is doing very well. Thriving and eating more every meal. Here's hoping

Found the remaining kit after I got home from work. And I was just really starting to think that he was going to make it. So terrible. Such an innocent thing doesn't deserve that <\3 |
