So I have a Jr Mini lop doe who was born March 22nd 2012. I know this is the breeding forum but I wasn't sure where to post this, since she is acting like does who are bred I am posting it here. Here is the back story. This doe was born here. Her name is Amy Pond and though she can be stubborn and uncooperative she has always been one of the friendliest does here. At the door waiting when you came into the barn even if she still had food. We recently attended her second show on August 26th ( first show she was onl y 11 weeks and didn't make weight), we got home late on that sunday. The next few days everything was fine. Then on Saturday the 1st I went to reach into her cage to feed her and nearly lost my hand. She lunged at me. Growling. I talked softly and slowly she let me get a hold of her. I pulled her out of the cage and put her on the grooming table. I checked her ear number first off ( thinking maybe I had grabbed the wrong doe at the show) Nope SMB15 thats my Amy. I looked her over good, her grumbling and growling the whole time, no sores, or scrapes or missing hair, her coat looks awesome. No loose stools ( she pooped twice on the table nice firm round and correct color). She is eating and drinking fine. But she is growling about everything. I moved her to a differnt cage thinking maybe she didn't like being by the door. Two days now and she is still growling at me when I go to feed her. She mumbles and grumbles when I pet her. To me she is acting like a doe who has been bred. But as far as I know she hasn't been. I took 12 rabbits and 6 people with me. The rabbits rode with my friend as he had the SUV. We moved them from one carrier to another a couple times to make it easier to show and as the sell rabbits sold. I couldn't tell you who all she was next to in the carriers with the wire dividers but it was usually boys ( I separate the boys with the girls so no one gets attitude in the carriers). Could it have happend like that? I will be asking my friend who they rode with if any of them every " got out" together. Any one else have a doe do this character change when they where not bred? Does it stay this way? Any ideas???? Cause Amy will not be staying if she is going to attack. I don't put up with that kind of attitude. Thanks in advance. Here are some pictures of her, just because threads are always better with pictures. ![]()

Some does will suddenly turn hormonal and aggressive while/after going through their "puberty". It could be the hormones, she may think she's bred, or maybe she's stressed. I have had aggressive does before so she may stay like that.. time will tell. |

she most likely WANTS to be bred. I generally wait until that pushiness is out of their system and THEN I breed 'em. Mind.... if it takes longer than a week then I breed 'em regardless. she's five and a bit months old...she's old enough to breed... though if she's not making weight...do you really want to? |

I'd agree it is more likely hormones, possibly false pregnancy. I've gotten lots of weird behavior shifts in the 5-7 month old range - both does and bucks. Some lasted, some went back to their normal selves Not likely she was bred through the carrier - but I'd give her the month to go through the hormonal shifts and 'just in case'. That will put her over the 6 month mark -- at that point if she's still acting aggressive, I'd breed her. |

Thanks! We never breed before 6 months. She isn't under weight for a junior but she hasn't hit her senior weight yet. I am waiting to see if she fills out or not before I decide if I am letting her go or not. She has a nice crown/ears and shoulders but her head is a bit pear shaped, and her body is parrallel instead of round when viewed from the top if that makes any since. Thanks again. Ill keep an eye on her. |

Highly likely it's just her hitting breeding age. They act aggressive when they want to be bred, and when they are bred. |

She is being a bit better. She binky's in her cage. Which is only a 2x2. I have been giving her extra time out in the runs and it seems to be helping. Though she does keep up with the grumbling she hasn't lunged for a while. |
