1 live baby from Jillian's current JW pairing (Saturday am - 2 days late). 2 stillborn -- a blue that looked stretched and a black otter (that I assume was behind it). The live kit has tan pattern markings -- but looks lighter than the black otter that didn't make it. Crossing fingers that it is her hoped-for marten. The other JW doe apparently didn't take (and neither did my angora) -- so of my fear that we would be overrun (the doe that took had 3 on her last litter but the one that didn't take had 6 as a first time mom) we only have the one baby (who will be spoiled!). Jillian's already named the little one Itari (Japanese for solstice -- from sire Equinox and dam Black Magic). Any advice on early ways to tell apart sable marten, silver marten and black otter? Love the name! ![]() I mistook my sable martens for blue otters at first. They looked blue-ish with tan markings.. I would post pictures but I'm not on my computer right now. If you go to the color listing (or whatever it's called) forum I have pictures of them there. I hope it's what she's looking for! What color are the parents? |

well - day 35 the second doe kindled a single doa baby. Jillian is sad. But at least her Saturday baby is still doing well - nice and round. Itari definitely looks more black than blue -- just a bit lighter than the 'normal' black otter. Sire is a black otter that carries either chin or rew (his squirrel sire was definitely chlc) -- dam is a black that MAY carry chl (or whatever recessive that sable in her background was carrying). Odds favor the otter, but the dam is her only bunny that might carry shaded. |

7 days -- Itari is fat and happy -- triangle coming in chestnut, so a black otter. |
