So, I bred my broken frosty doe to my tort buck because I was trying to get her to go into labor. She had 2 babies, they look like broken smutty sable points but I'm assuming that they are broken sallanders. We were talking about her and what her former babies could have been here: http://s4.zetaboards.com/Rabbit_Addict/topic/9674010/1/ Here they are. What do you think? The sire does carry sable point but these ones don't look the same as the SPs he has produced in the past. ![]() ![]()

Phenotype wise, they certainly scream iron gray (sallander) to me. Given the information about her past litters, and that the "sable martens" really weren't sable martens, then in all likelyhood, these guys are iron grays. |

All right, great. Thank you. ![]() I wasn't going to keep any either way since their sire carries shaded but these 2 are so adorable. Just out of curiosity, can sallanders be used for anything? |

In hollands? I'd say yes. Show wise, people will just call them broken sable points. (In NDs, people mistakenly call them sable points anyway) Since hollands are faaaaar less picky on color, I wouldn't be too fearful of putting them into most programs. I can't remember if Silver Marten is showable in hollands (I know it's not in AFL), but if it isn't, than it's best not to put it into otters unless you need the shaded gene for shaded martens. (In which case you'd also need a REW or pointed white). Ack, I'm blabbering and very tired. Message me on facebook if you want to chat about how to use them. Outlands Rabbitry, or the Megan Smith account that is attached to Outlands.
