4 weeks ago I had a doe give birth to 5 kits. Two survived and 3 were DOA. During the delivery, the doe lost a lot of blood but I found no stuck kits and, after clean up, she nursed the kits and has been an excellent mother since then. However, on three mornings I have found blood spots in her cage. 4 days ago, the blood was splattered on the wall behind her cage, in the litterbox and a spot on the floor. The kits are now 4 weeks old and are quite active and I think she was trying to get away from them because I could hear a lot of movement during the night. The doe appears to be in good health and has a good appetite and is very sociable. She hasn't had any bleeding in 3 days and I am wondering if anyone has had a similar experience. I would appreciate any advice as to whether she should be bred again or if she should be retired. She is 1 1/2 years old and has averaged only 2 surviving kits per litter. |

Just want to include that she has had no problems with bleeding during kindling/while on her past 2 litters.

Could she be anemic? I don't know if rabbits can be anemic but maybe there is a nutritional deficiency of some sort? |

She appears healthy but I've been giving her sweet potato as a treat which she loves. I read that sweet potato is a good source of iron so I hope that it is helping replace any iron being lost. |

blood scattered on the wall is a bit scary. Did you check her teats? The first thing to cross my mind is that a baby may have latched on and she pulled away (not wanting to nurse right then). Second is whether she bit a baby for the same reason. I've had does that definitely don't like the babies wanting to nurse constantly once out of the nestbox, but never blood before. |

I flipped her over and looked for the source but she was clean. The babies were okay too. BTW, she hasn't had this happen in 5+ days so now my main concern is whether she should have another litter. |
