Is it possible to get a siamese sable out of two torts? Can you get a seal out of a black and a tort? Why or why not would be great too, if anyone knows.

siamese sable (most breeds) = aaB-chl-D-E- tort = aaB-C-D-ee The torts don't have an E- gene and therefore can't ever produce a siamese sable. Seal = aaB-chlchlD-E- Black = aaB-C-D-E- Tort = aaB-C-D-ee Yes, you can get a seal out of a tort and a black, but only if BOTH parents are chl carriers (longshot). |

Thanks. ![]() I bred Usagi (tort buck) to October (black doe). Usagi is out of a sable point doe and the rest of his pedigree is just torts/blue torts. Toby goes back to a rabbit who produced sable points before. The rest of the ped is only torts, blacks, maybe a blue tort. In the litter, there is 3 "blacks" which don't really look black.. they have a brown-ish cast that I have been waiting to see if it was my eyes playing tricks on me.. they're 2.5 weeks old now and it's still there. The last baby is a sable point.. I'm suspecting it is a seal point, since it is very dark. What do you think? How do you identify a black from a seal? |

I'm told the paws where the fur is lighter is the best giveaway (not sure it that's for babies or if they have to be older) -- the paws of the seals will have a much more definite brown tone, while the black's paws are grey with no 'warm' tone to them. Of course, the paws have to be really clean for that to work. Eye color is another clue -- ruby cast eyes is an indicator of seal. Sounds like high odds that both Usagi and October are shaded carriers - so seal is certainly possible. |

Thanks! Right now, there doesn't seem to be a ruby cast when I put the camera flash on them. Here are some quick pics I took of them.. not the best, since they are in bad lighting with flash but they're better than nothing. I don't have many pictures of my former blacks so I don't have anything to compare. ![]() ![]() On top of my black dog. ![]() |
