So previously, last year, i made a topic about Disney, called "my bew doe's story".
It was about her background, genetics and the litter she was holding, in which Arika is born.
And so this topic is about her daughter.:shy:
She is born out of a Bew x Rew

Daddy

Mommy, the beautiful Disney

The litter, Arika is the second to the right.

Arika had her first date with Jiro today.. it seemed like he wasn't going to do it but she took 4 times so i'm hopeful :wubz:
She is 10 month's old and born in april 2012, this will be her first litter!

The video link --> CLICK HERE!!
I really needed to help him because he's a sucker on dates, i've tried him many time with my girls but he seems to nervous or unsecure.
So what i did was, i pulled the doe on him and she humped him to fire him up and that really works!
Actually, it only worked because the doe showed him how to do it, so he tried harder and pulled through 4 times.
He wouldn't be able to get her once if i watched them without helping..

She is a vienna marked, broken opal. Her sire is a rew carrying broken, self and blue.
Her dam is Disney my precious, most favourite princess, a Bew and probably carrying agouti and steel but not proven yet.
So Arika is probaby.. A_BBCcddE_ EnenVv and the reason why i bred her to Jiro, a tort is because i NEED to find out her and her mothers genetic details and especially on the E-locus.
If i didn't care about the E-locus, i probably wouldn't have bred her because i don't like agouti's, actually hate agouti.
Basically, i'm doing this cross to fill in the blanks of her pedigree and i will only get answers when i do these kind of testbreedings.

Arika's siblings out of Bew x Rew cross are..
- Blue opal vm
- Blue vm
- Gold tipped blue steel
- Broken blue vm

Jiro the buck, i bought in a petshop as a little buck, he is around the same age as Arika.
He is a vienna marked tort. I never had a litter of him so i'm very excited about this breeding.
They told me there was a blue sibling with him when i bought.

We were at the vet, he got a part of his underlip ripped off by another buck.. which healed out nicely.

In August i got a call from somebody who had a doe and wanted to breed her, he asked me if i had any bucks he could use for his doe and i said yes.
So he visited me with his black vienna marked doe and she got pregnant of Jiro. I told him i wanted a kit from that litter or possibly the doe if he was going to sell her and he promised me he would call if they would reach 6 weeks.
He called me 2/3 months later but couldn't tell their sexes so he said he would call 2 weeks later.. but he never did.

During the fall and winter, none of my doe's were receptive for breeding because of the weather in holland.
So i focussed myself on other things and left the rabbits alone.. and now i'm desperately waiting for the girls their hormones to start kicking
I started with AVC treatment, a few drops in their water and on their food pellets and i must say.. it really has an effect.
The mood in the colony has changed within 2 days.. i could feel the tension today when i cleaned the pen and fed them, they were running around and chasing eachother which they never do. Everyone except for the high rank doe and buck, tried to avoid eachother.
More importantly, they acted weird when i gave their pellets. They looked for an open spot at the bowl and jumped around when another rabbit came too. They've never been like this so i think it has something to do with the acv, their hormones are probably going ape :giggle:

On a side note..

There are 2 topics i started last year when Disney was pregnant and gave birth to Arika and her siblings.
I even posted pictures of the litter, there was even a side discussion on the Steel gene because Arika's brother came out as a gold tipped blue steel.
I was clueless so asked a lot of questions and Neubunny and the others really helped me out explaining agouti, opal and the steel gene.

If anybody feels the curiosity to look into Arika's background, here are the 2 topics

What is she? This topic was about Arika's fullsister from an older litter. She was a blue opal vm that i sold.
Arika's wasn't even born then but now i look at the pictures, they really look the same as in body and shape.

My bew doe's story Is the story of Disney, arika's mother and there are pictures of the litter and the steel kit that i questioned.

Sorry for the lang post.. i'm always dramatic like this

I hope you get a litter! She is pretty. I'm going to try putting some ACV on their pellets.. hopefully it'll help mine, too.

Yeah give it a try, Disney was mounting the (spayed) buck today, which she never did before :o

Wow! Does it make the food soggy? I don't think mine would eat it if that's the case. If it has that kind of effect on does, then it's worth a try though.. mine are way too stubborn lately.

No i just pour a few drops over the pellets and then put my hand through to mix it out.
ACV smells very strong so you only need a subtle, spoon amount so that the smell doesn't scare them off.

I hope it works for you too!!

Here is the proof that acv works if the girls aren't in the mood, atleast for me.

I tried to breed Disney last week before i had used acv, she would just sit still and ignore the buck.
He had no chance so it didn't work. Until today.. i was cleaning the pen when Disney was chasing the spayed buck inside the colony and he went back after her. Which was a sign that she was ready to breed. If a doe is chasing the buck and annoying him, then she is telling him that she is ready.

So i took Disney out and put her in the breeding cage together with Jiro, my roaming breeding buck.
Aaaaaand she lifted and took 9 times (probably 10 when i went inside for 3 minutes) without me helping them :omg:
This is must be the effect of acv.

Here is the proof
-->> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbQMRYPltu0&feature :woot:

She is the mother of Arika btw, and very excited about this litter because i have no idea what Disney carries on the E-locus.
Her dam was Harlequin vm and dad was a blue vm (Ee)
And i got a steel out of Disney.. but i don't know if she or the previous buck carried steel.
So the main reason i bred her with Jiro, a tort buck is to bring out the E-genes of Disney.
If she is Ee, i will get full-extensions and Torts, If she is eje, i will get torts and harlequins, and i will find out when this litter is born.
I'm waiting 2 years for this moment so yeah :shifty:

Awesome, congrats! :D Let us know what happens with the babies.

I have two does that are super hard to breed.. they won't even cooperate when I hold them up. So I'm hoping it'll work for those two.

Your dog is so cute.. I forgot to mention that last time.

I really like your colony set-up.. do you have does away from bucks, or is everyone living together? I would guess not, but I know some people do that.

Hihi my dog was being silly today, he normally doesn't bother me when i'm with the rabbits.

My colony has 7 rabbits, 1 spayed buck and 6 doe's.. 10 if you count the 3 doe's that i sold last week
Sidney (spayed buck, Bew)
Disney (dominant female, bew)
Belle (halfsister of Disney, orange vienna marked)
Arika (daughter of Disney, broken opal vienna marked)
Zira (bought in a petshop, sable point vienna marked)
Celeste (daughter of Sidney and Disney, very small bew)
Amber (little chocolate doe with major hair loss and bald feet, she is getting better now)

And Jiro is the tort vm buck that roams free in the backyard, he is fertile so i don't want him in the colony.

Last week i sold these 3 doe's from the colonly, so there were actually 10.
Tosca (Disney's full sister from a later litter, Bew)
Noël (Disney and Sidney's daughter and littermate to Celeste, dwarf bew)
Alicia (Belle and Sidney's daughter, harlequin vienna marked, probably dwarf too)

And Sophie, she is an older Rew doe who lives seperate in a cage.
She was actually bonded with Amber the chocolate and they were both introduced to the colony in november but i had to take Sophie out in december/januari when she had lost a lot of weight, she was wet and shaking, so i kept her in my room for 2 days and now she is staying in the closed veranda with the dog, but i want to put her back in the colony when spring starts.

Your bunnies all look so similar in appearance! Wow, are they ever cute. :wubz: Must be fun to see that many bunnies all getting along. They seem very tame, too. I love how Arika (I think) was cleaning Zira's face on and off the entire video. Too cute!

Hihi yeah most of them are family
Yup, that was Arika cleaning cleaning Zira, she has that habbit to lick their eyes, i call her the "caretaker".

Some of them are tame and follow me around, or jump on my lap.
Others ignore me or try to stay out of my way, but they are all used to my presence.

Yay she had them today.. 5 :)
3 Seem to be bew
1 Seems to be all white with a dark spot on his eye (broken + vienna gene = hotot marking)
And one is dark.. either chestnut or black i think? I haven't had a black/chestnut since 10 years ago.. help?

I wanted to find out what the doe is on the E locus with this litter. She is E_ and he is ee
And now i'm still not able to find out because of those 4 whites.. i'm ready to cry now cause i don't want a second litter with her to try it again.

For the black one, what color is the belly? When they are newborns it's hard to tell if they have agouti markings or not.

These 2 are the only one with color one it, the others seem to be Bew but they might have creme/yellow markings that will show when the fur grows.

I think he's just blue or either chinchilla/shaded kind of blue since the mom carries "c" and if the buck carries anything recessive on the c loci.
