sigh - I really need to learn patience. But we already waited a long time for the doe to be old enough, and a month for the kits to be born... so, realistically, how long do we have to wait to know whether the Jersey wooly kits are black otter, black silver marten, or sable marten? As I don't know for sure whether the buck carries chin or REW at this point (1 day old) they could be any of the three.

Black otter/silver marten will be black with the tan markings.. might take a week or two to see what color the markings behind the head will be. It'll depend on how much rufus they have (if black otter). If they have decent rufus, then it should be pretty easy. If it's not so good, it might take some deliberation. How is the mother's rufus? A sable marten will look like a blue otter after being born. I posted some pictures on here a while back.. should be in the color directory. |

father is the otter -- we thought he was going to be a silver for almost two weeks before his triangle started turning and he is still pale rufus. I don't know how to judge 'rufus' on the siamese sable mom. She's a pretty 'coffee and cream' mixture. They don't look blue to me at all -- though Jillian and I both agree that they seem lighter than the blacks we had previously. All similar to each other though, which would lean against the sable. |

![]() ![]() depending on lighting, the solid kit still looks a bit lighter than the sibling -- but not so much that we think it is anything other than black. still debating whether the tan pattern is an otter or silver marten -- but the inside of the legs and triangle are picking up a hint of tan, so thinking otter. lol -- and mom looks really funny now -- she was apparently color selective pulling wool and pulled every bit of the cream shade from her coat ... leaving a bunny that looks lilac with a black head. after... ![]() before ...
