Hi everyone I have a question I just had my first litter of kits born today (4 or 5).Anyway how can I tell if first time momma is taking care of them and feeding them,and what do I do if she's not HELP please!

Check them everyday for full bellies. They look like little ping pong balls. lol You can tell when they aren't being fed because they will look skinny and even wrinkled from being dehydrated.

The mother will feed them about once a day... sometimes twice. Someone suggested to put a piece of string or yarn on top of the nest then take a picture of it... if it looks different, then the mom was probably in there. Don't put it where the babies are or they'll probably move it themselves. It's more accurate if you just look at the babies though.

She will stay in there until her milk is gone/mostly gone. So if there is one smaller one with a couple bigger ones in a larger litter, then the smaller one may get less milk. It depends on how strong the babies are and how much milk your doe has. :)
