Only the buck has possible chocolate carrier in his background. I'm not sure the doe does, I'll check. Yeah the broken kit is very light... the black shading on the sides you normally see on a tort, with this kit it's barely noticeable. This is the lightest tort I've had so far. I have a picture of this kit's side I'll post so you can see how light it's sides are. I know it's still getting fur in but you can't really see any black on it's mouth/butterfly either. Ok here is the link to pics of the broken tort kit (tried to take pics in as much natural light possible), scroll down to the bottom.. pretty sure it's just a regular really light tort or possibly blue tort? The dam has mostly tort except 2 smoke pearl's, one on sire's side of ped (grandmother) and one on dam's side of ped (great grandfather labeled as "steel-smoke pearl"?) but that's the only other color besides tort. Forgive me for asking, still learning color, what does high rufus mean? ![]() Broken Tort Kit Edited by volz83, May 15 2013, 03:30 PM.

Rufus factor is a series of several modifier genes that affect the 'redness' of phaeomelanin (the red/orange pigment in bunnies). While in actuality it is probably a series of at least 10 co-dominant genes, they all have similar effects, so what we see can't easily be attributed to a particular gene. But in general, they act as if they were additive. 'High rufus' means a bunny has the right modifier genes to make the phaeomelanin go a really bright red shade. 'Low rufus' leaves the phaeomelanin a paler shade - all the way to cream in some cases. In addition to the rufus factor, the color of phaeomelanin is also affected by several of the primary genes... b (chocolate) often gives a warmer tone, d (dilute - which changes the black eumelanin to blue) also dilutes the phaeomelanin (usually to the fawn-cream range), and all the recessive C-alleles (chd, chl, ch, and c) completely block the production of phaeomelanin (leaving the 'orange' portions of the coat white). Certain coat types also alter the way the light hits the pigment, which is why some colors look very different on different breeds (e.g., angora wool dilutes the pigments over the whole length of the fiber - making even a 'high rufus' look quite pale; satin fur adds sheen to a color, effectively making color more intense; etc). |

It can be! For sure now it's a light tort but very cute! I know they are still very young but one has very nice ears already! Thanks Neubunny for that information! I'll post pics of them sunday or tomorrow! So fascinating how quickly they grow! |

10 day old pictures! They are SO cute! I really like all three so far, how could you not?? They are turning out VERY nice so far! Nice and wide between the eyes, ears are appearing to be of good lenght and position! I'll most likely keep a buck and doe out of this litter. It also looks like I might have a very dark tort to! It's the kit on the left in the first picture, I can always pick it out due it's slightly darker color. The broken tort kit, is the lightest black tort I've had so far, I really love it's coat pattern. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Same here! Mom has narrow shoulders, pintched rear end and a little long in body (great for having babies!) However, she's got a nice head and crown. The sire is very nice with great shoulders, rear end, compact, great head and crown, so I'm hoping they made me some bunny magic lol! |

I call him chunky monkey right now lol, he's the chunkiest I have ever had so far so I'm hoping he'll have great type! Broken Black Tort Buck ![]() ![]() Doe kit #1 ![]() Doe kit #2 ![]()

three and a half weeks old! Will be 4 weeks old this friday! So far both does are looking great but one of them looks really good! I love the color of the broken tort buck! Broken Tort buck ![]() ![]() ![]() Doe #1 ![]() ![]() ![]() Doe #2, my favorite so far out of the other doe, she poses naturally and has great type so far! ![]() ![]() ![]() So I'm just wondering, the broken tort, I know he is tort but he doesn't look like a black tort, like on his face, the butterfly. He is a bright orange in person but pretty sure he isn't a chocolate tort. I don't know, he is just a different shade of tort that I've seen before. Edited by volz83, Jun 5 2013, 08:50 PM.
