This is all very interesting. I'm kind of torn. Like others, I'm going to wait to decide. I want to hear about others' experiences before I go ahead and try with my own. |

See, the thing with this vaccine is no matter what, if you have vaccinated a rabbit, they are going to test positive for pasturella. You need to speak with Bob Glass, the creator of this vaccine. I'd encourage all of you to join to the pasturella vaccine group on facebook. Everyone there can answer your questions better than I can. You have to order it from Bob Glass. It is $40 per 50 dose vial, plus $10 shipping. |

Is there any other way to learn from Bob Glass for those who don't get involved with Facebook? I'm interested to learn about the vaccine. Will I plan to use it? I don't think so. I want my rabbits to build a good immune system to fight off illnesses without help from drugs. I myself have never had a flu shot. Feel my body should be able to fight it off itself. Am I being neglectful or feel someone who doesn't use this is neglectful, no I do not. And will tell everyone who feels this way that it is an individual choice. But I do want to know about it, pros and cons. I think everyone should, even if you do not plan to use it. |

ohh... didn't realize they would test positive. So the test is for the protein, not a culture for live organisms? If the test is a culture, then vaccination shouldn't cause a rabbit to test positive (because the vaccine uses only dead organisms - those won't grow in a culture). But if the test is just for the protein, then yes, the vaccine will cause them to test positive. That would mean we couldn't ever tell if a vaccinated rabbit was or wasn't a carrier. I sent a request to the group too (at least I think it is the right group) -- but their header says it is for those using the vaccine to compare results not for those looking to debate pros/cons. |

Thanks Sidd Say Gimme for finding the link and posting. Unfortunately for me it goes to a Facebook Log. I don't do Facebook, so I'll just find another way to learn about the Vaccine. Thanks anyway. |

So what if rabbits that already carry Pasteurella gets vaccinated? Would it have any affect then? I personally think there has been a lot of speculation about Pasteurella that is passed around as knowledge, but they say that like 75% of rabbits carry it already -- so does the vaccination work on them? |

I vaccinated an infected, snotty doe that had in quarantine. Her symptoms went away and she appears completely healthy now. I have to wait 2 weeks after her booster to confirm that is "cured" so I can't say much yet. One thing, if your herd has pasturella and a low immune system, the vaccine can bring out the snuffles which you should cull for. not only are you getting rid of an infected rabbit but you are building a more immune herd by culling the weak immune systems. Discuss it will bob! He can tell you more and make more sense. LOL |

Thanks Little Rascal. I will send an e-mail to Mr. Glass to ask about the vaccine. Truly appreciate the help. If it cured your rabbit that actually showing pasturella (snuffles), I'm really interested to find out if it's a cure or just a mask and could affect others. Is there such a thing as a carrier. Why apply a cure to find out if a rabbit has pasturella? Is there another way of diagnosing. Just curious. If a rabbit gets this shot, am I correct in understand that the rabbit will now test positive. Is there a test BEFORE the shot to know there is a issue. Not saying this is bad because I don't know about the vaccine. I'm not the type to completely medicate. I like to keep my Tribe natural as possible. Please don't stop talking about this. This is important to everyone. Even those looking for a pet bunny or show bunny. Meat rabbits, in my opinion, their live span is short and the meat should be clean, so I would think Meat rabbit breeders would stay away from this. They need clean rabbits with no issues. Meat breeders do use this if they have a valuable herd that is showing symptoms. They have a 21 day withdrawal before they should be killing the rabbits for the table. Yes, there is a test but you have to have it done by a vet and it is expensive, especially if you have a number of rabbits. |

Thanks for the info. Was only under the impression that a rabbit should be put down at time of symptoms. Not to affect the herd. I didn't know there was a time frame where you could use this vaccine. I'm going to call my Vet and find out about the test. See where the finance stands and actually would really like to know about ec exposure. Plus I would never want to risk any other rabbits at the show. Will share the results. |

I still haven't had a problem with it. My doe that was ill is still free of symptoms. There's an update.
