I appreciate the info that you are passing on, and I am NO expert either. I don't understand how the bacteria lingers or survives in the nasal cavities. Bacteria has to run in a system. Blood system, bodily fluid, that's what I always thought. Bacteria can not attach. And if there is lack of blood flow in the sinus cavity already? Also thanks about finding out about testing. Blood test is more accurate than culture regarding "carrier". Truly appreciate you passing on the info. Definitely something you need to know regarding the health of your rabbits. |

Hey guys so I think I found the test that can be performed to see if there is a curren infection. Here's some info: http://www.zoologix.com/rodent/Datasheets/PasteurellaMultocida.htm Also I talked to a vet and asked his medical opinion on the vaccine. To clear up the question on how babies get the bacteria here is what he said. " [Bob Glass] Cannot address anything regarding placental transfer of antibodies, colostral intake of antibodies, and maternal antibody interference. Pasteurella is almost certainly picked up when the kits hit the nest box. If the kits don't get adequate antibodies from the doe, then they are already carrying the bacteria before they are ever vaccinated." |

Thanks so much Sarah for sharing this very informative essay. I've bookmarked this and will actually give it to my Rabbit Savy Vet as well. Truly like the quickness and more accuracy of this test. I'm still a bit leery of the vaccine, but being very open minded. Very nasty disease. Truly glad to see this research though. Truly appreciate Mr. Glass for his work. About time the rabbit was studied for their health reasons, not someone else's say, makeup. |
