Write a book? Thanks for the vote of confidence but there is so much more I need to know about rabbits and keeping them safe, healthy and content.

Now if you are talking about environmental crimes against the environment, I could write several. This would make certain high ranking people very, very uncomfortable.

We are going to have to have that discussion someday. Systems ecologist here - 'day job' (as opposed to mom and bunnies) is on Great Lakes environment (working FOR Sea Grant AT the NOAA Great Lakes Environmental Research Lab). Mostly coordination, grant writing and science interpretation (outreach/extension) - very little actual science research in my current job, though I try to keep my hand in. I like my agency, but high ranking people need to be made uncomfortable.

Glad this thread is here. I feed my rabbits flaxseed too, they love it.
Unfortunately, I just read that flaxseed is bad for rabbits because it can dry their intestines out. Anyone know if this is true or not?
I was also wondering if chia seeds would be beneficial to rabbits?

Too much can hurt a rabbit. Yes it can dehydrate. I have one Lionhead that is sensitive to flaxseed, so she only gets a very little bit. I don't feed a lot, just a sprinkle to all my Tribe.

Key word here is moderation. And monitor the poo. Too wet, too much. And also you need to monitor their water intake. Not drinking, no seed.

Chia seeds are not from this Country so I would not introduce that into my Tribe. But if you find any information, please post. It could be beneficial. I'll go and check the Seed Destination, meaning the Country of origin.

I will be sure to post any information I find out about chia seeds.

Which brand and type of black oil sunflower seed do you all use? I've been trying to get my hands on some for a while now, but can't seem to find any. I see the Kaytee brand sells some for birds, would that be okay for rabbits? Do the seeds need to be hulled or anything like that?

I think pretty much any BOSS are fine. I fed a kind for wild birds when I used to feed it... all was fine. They eat them whole. :)

I usually get my sunflowers seeds from the Health Store. Already shelled (My Z-Tribe are a bit spoiled, lol).

I looked at my local (extreme) health food store, they didn't even know what it is. The lady looked at me like I was crazy asking for these black oil sunflower seeds.
The Kaytee brand I saw at the petstore is shelled. I think I'll cautiously buy that one and make sure they don't choke on the shells.

Sorry to hear that. In my area, we have an actual health market. You can get everything there. I would never give anyone in the Z-Tribe a shell.

Hope all goes well with your rabbits.

Wheat Grass is now a staple here at the Z-Tribe. I can't say enough for this little plant. And what it does for our rabbits. After bringing Maurice and Amelia home, it's value has proven itself. It truly enhances their appetites and can not discount the trace minerals this delivers. I have now a big planter growing downstairs in our grow room and need to get more seeds. I plan to make sure my Z-Tribe gets a bit of wheat grass every day. It truly has changed them. I feel it has helped Maurice and Amelia's digestive system deal with the changes here. All for the positive.
