Was just curious. No "moon" babies started here.

science fair project report ... http://www.usc.edu/CSSF/History/2010/Projects/J2405.pdf

but that is for litter size, not does/bucks.

... I haven't found anything else remotely 'scientific' on the subject.

Maybe we should start a string here to gather data. Post breeding date (or birthdate and we can back-calculate), the moon phase (or we can look that up from the date), litter size, and number of bucks/does in the litter. Anybody up for a group experiment?

Sounds like a great group experiment. Will love to join the group when I start.

Data gathering of this sort will help figure out about the affect of the moon on does and litters.

I'll definitely be collecting data on the affects on my does and kits in the heat, as my "show rabbits" will be outside.

Working in groups, sharing experiences helps big time.

Really great idea Neubunny.

I'd be happy to go along with this. Have to say I did smile when I read the concept of the moon phase and bunny gender......I thought of wizards and brews.

Ahhh, Harry Potter, lol. The moon phase part makes me think of wizards, but bunny gender? I think more of owls when I think of wizards. And brews, frogs and worms come to mind. lol

I'll be taking loads of records on my breedings and litters. Just a detailed person I guess. Maybe to detailed, but heck maybe someone else is too.

Zrabbits what I'd like to know is the best way to keep records. In this day and age of computers is it in Excel or something else?

There are many rabbit record programs out there that you can purchase or even download. Still looking at examples.

Excel is just as good. Create your own recording system by looking at examples of others. To fit YOUR rabbitry. I'm leaning that way. It will be a challenge.

But if you want something quickly (since you have started your rabbitry) do a search or hopefully someone here can suggest a program.

Keeping records is a must for success. If you don't know what you have, what the outcome was, how are you going to continue to get the high average of show rabbits? NALRC harps on it. Well shouldn't say "harp", but emphasizes record keeping.

Been reading this. Has a link for recordkeeping which I'm going to venture to click and see what where it leads me.

Maybe give it a go, maybe could help you decide what you want to do with keeping records.

I'm an idiot. Already decided on how I was going to keep my records after pulling out my binder for the " Z Show Rabbit Foundation". Thanks Bumper and sorry about that.

So, what kind of info are we looking for? Are we going to be breeding specifically for the moon phases or looking at past litters? I have records from 2009 to now. I would be willing to contribute, sounds very interesting.

Past litters work -- so long as you have the dates we should be able to look up the moon phases. ... heading out of town for a staff retreat today -- I will see if I can find 'old' moon charts when I get back (unless someone beats me too it). When I do, I will start a new thread with the charts at the top ... we can each use those to look up our moon phase and add our data to the string.

All right, wherever you want us to start posting I'll go through the records and take away all of the unnecessary info and post it. :)
