I use paper shavings in the trays, which are a lot better than wood shavings for grooming out. Hay is awful though, and I always try to keep babies on unlimited timothy hay -- which I swear they roll in. |

I don't remember if this question was brought up before or not but has anyone worked with a deep red colored rabbit that happens to also carry cchd? Would this gene interaction produce pink, orange, or fawn colors instead of red? |

Some of my chocolate- and lilac-tort angoras carry cchd, as do some of the fawns - I wouldn't call any of them 'deep red' though I get more intense color than typical for chocolate-base and especially lilac-base in angoras . I don't see any consistent difference in 'redness' between the ones that do and those that don't carry cchd. I am getting better at guessing which carry chd based on 'off' eye colors as kits (the carriers usually outgrow the off eye color). |

NeuBunny do you think the depth of red might be there genetically but not seen because of the 'diluting effect' of your buns having a long coat? I'm thinking along the lines of the red rexes. |

yes, to some extent. even the best red angoras never get the really deep color of a good red rex. On the other hand, I've seen a couple of nice red angoras (always black-based by the smut color) that have way more color than my fawns (chocolate-based by the smut). Even though I don't think I will ever get them as bright as the red-based, I like the 'warmer' tone I get in my chocolate-based fawns. I think the chocolate gene itself has some 'dilution', but my lines are pretty high in 'rufus modifiers' (still hoping to push them a little farther). |

I'm interested in hearing that you're still pushing the depth of colour. Do you know whst gives the incredible red glow of the thriantas? |
