I have a wonderfully typy doe who is now two years old. For me, she's all i ever wanted from my NDs. She's never had kits or shown any interest in breeding even when put to several bucks over the years. She's been used as a companion to three young bucks which I kept on but didn't want to sit in a hutch alone at such a young age. When ever I've checked her private bits ( haha ) she's always been the palest pink unlike the purplish red of the receptive does. Five weeks ago, I retired her grand father.....today.....she's making a nest........it feels like Christmas, I feel very excited.....

She's gorgeous! Fingers crossed that the nest will be really used and healthy babies are found.

Let us know!

Thank you Zrabbits. In the early days I didn't bother sexing her as she looked so male. That was a real treat finding her to be a doe but huge disappointment that there were never youngster. She's one bunny I'd never part with whatever as to me she's such a pleasure to handle and to look at.

There are always one that tugs at your heart strings. See, breeders do have hearts!

Rabbits, they are all unique in their own right! And it's always a pleasure to have one around that is so sweet to cuddle and lovely to look at.

I have 10! Each gives back something different to me and my husband. Should be interesting to see once I get my "show" stock which one grabs my heart strings. All breeders do have their special buns which they retire to enjoy as a "companion".

The doe finally had three doa kits one of which was a max factor. I'm so disheartened finding dead kits. My NDs seem to have more dead than alive. Had that feeling going to give the breed up and try something else.

Two days ago one of my Hotot does (mated with a buck with two tiny mismarked) had a litter. Today I checked them. Six kits and everyone looking like a perfect Hotot. I was thrilled......six out of six.

Oh......how soon can I out a buck back with the ND who lost her kits? I'm going to put this down to being her first litter and will try once more.

Check her condition first... does she feel okay? Acting fine? What about her "area"? Were any of the kits stretched?

Sidd I checked the kits over. They looked fine. Well formed. I thought small actually. The doe is fine. Her nest was mainly hay but very little fur.

If the doe is in good condition (she's eating/drinking, acting normal, little to no weight loss) and her vulva looks fine, I would rebreed her ASAP. After kindling bunnies are more receptive. Since it was difficult to get her bred initially, your best chance at getting her rebred is now. Of course you may never get a live litter from her... but since she is older and it's a first litter, giving it another go isn't a bad idea.

Sidd has give really good advice. If she's in good condition, I would rebreed her now.

But if I are having doubts about continuing a breed, I wouldn't. But that's just me.

Congratulations BTW, on your Hotot litter!

Z I'll get some photos of that litter. Unlike my NDs my hotots have never produced peanuts or max factors even though they were bred via a black ND who I now know must carry the max gene.

I put a buck to her again.....her old boy friend. They seem ok.
