After I got off from work at 12:00 PM, my husband and I went to our first 4H show.

Posted Image

As we entered we came upon the arena where the horse events were taking place.

Posted Image

We parked and went toward the big open structures which held the other animals. Rabbits, guinea pigs, rats and reptiles.

Posted Image

These were some of the rabbits on display. Since we got there late, maybe from various shows?

Posted Image

Posted Image

We watched the judging of some guinea pigs. And yes, that shaggy one is a piggie. lol

Here's a young lady that introduced me to her rat. He was very friendly, but stayed close to his companion as he has been trained to do.

We got to see some children judging rabbits. Each were being timed, and had to evaluate each rabbit and then fill out the form. After the time was up, they would see how close they got to what the Judge stated.

The Young Lady was judging Chocolate Martens

Posted Image

The Young Gentleman was judging Mini Rexes

Posted Image

They each had to fill out the forms so the Judge could see what they thought of each rabbit.
Posted Image

It was really fun to watch them. They took it so seriously.

This was the competition I found my husband watching. He really liked the looks of these rabbits.
Posted Image

It was really nice of the judge, after the competition and while he was eating his lunch to answer a question my husband had on the competition. One rabbit was disqualified for a bent tail. The judge explained to my husband that if the tail was dislocated or broken, there would be no problem. But this tail was bent due to a genetic flaw. This is an automatic disqualification.

Here's a young lady getting ready to go in for her "showmanship". There is a judge in this small building who talks to the children individually and they have to show off their rabbits. Lovely French Lop.

And yes, there were Lionheads!

Had the pleasure of meeting two young ladies who raise their lionheads. Enjoyed the time they gave me to talk about their lionheads and also, yes, take pics.

Beautiful Broken Black

A Gorgeous Magpie

Another one of their Lovely Lions

My husband and I met a very polite, young gentleman who showed off his Jersey Woolies.

Also my husband found a Flemish. HUGE 4 year old Fawn. Just a mellow guy, with his own transportation, a wagon.

Also saw Giant Angora, English Lop and Hollands.

Also took a stroll to see the Chickens. My husband's jaw dropped when we walked into the open structure. He couldn't believe how many different breed of chickens there were.

Also Ducks and a Peacock

What an absolutely splendid time we had. People and their children were just so open to us. Loved talking about their animals. My husband was really impressed and said it was nothing that he thought it would be like. He was just bummed that we got there so late. We are planning to make it there next year. Definitely want to go back and enjoy watching and talking to this group of very nice individuals, who love showing off their animals. Also teaching their children also.

Excellent program 4H is. What a lovely event. Truly glad we went and looking forward to going in the future.

Also we are now both psyched to go the Rabbit & Cavy Show on September 21st, which will be held at the same place.

Oh, wow! Awesome! I would love to see something like this... great pics, thanks for sharing.

The second Lionhead is a harlequin, not magpie although I do see one of those in some of the first pictures. Cute tort. Lots of nice looking animals. Sounds like fun for everyone. :) The Spots are smaller than I thought they would be.

Will take better notes lol. Thanks for the correction of the second lionhead. My error not the young lady's.

Enjoyable time!

Glad you had such a great time! 4H really is a wonderful program and I am always so impressed by how knowledgeable all the kids are.

lol - I foresee a runner breed in your future! English spots! Resisting here so far, though my son likes tans (and I have to admit they would be a blast for agility), I can't yet picture him with a rabbit that could/would take off if dropped (actually, he hasn't dropped a bunny in over a year, but the way he holds them I'm always holding my breath).

Cavies come in just 13 breeds - and the longhaired mops are always adorable, but I can't imagine putting in the work it takes to keep them in show coats (my neighbor girl showed silkies and Peruvians for a while - huge amount of effort to keep them in coat!)

And the poultry! If you think the rabbit SOP book is long, you should catch a glimpse of the poultry one. HUGE book! Unfortunately, with a price to match, so I don't have a copy (yet).

Nope, no runner breeds in our future. We also love the tans. I think my husband loves the sleek look of the English Spots and Tans. He saw a Belgian Hare as well. Feel the same way as you regarding these runner breeds being the best for agility. Would be a blast but just a bit of a handful for us.

Can just imagine the poultry SOP book. With all those color variations, patterns, etc, and we didn't see half of the poultry, definitely must be a HUGE book.

We are definitely impressed with the 4-H program and the children who love it, as well as the parents who get really involved. Hats off to all!
