Is it okay for a little immature buck to breed? I've read things where it said that it could stunt the growth but i'm sure that is nonsense, right? He will just grow out normally? My rexsatin doe from the colony, mounted the neutered buck so i picked her up and suddenly decided to place her with a young buck that i planned to breed her with later. He is 16 weeks old and still very small. I assumed that he would slowly start to get interest in females after a few months from now, 6 months the earliest. Not expecting the unexpected, i put the doe in his cage and he chased after her, mounted her and she took 4 times.. It went really smooth compared to other amateur bucks that i've seen. The weird part is, i have a 6 month old buck that won't breed yet and he happens to be the son of the doe that got bred by the 4mnth old buck Anyway.. here is the couple The doe, Saphira. Here she was in the middle of molting here but she is now shiny and pretty again ![]() And the buck Ayden. ![]() |

I'm not sure if it stunts the growth. Quite the buck! Hope he grows normally and has nice healthy babies with your cute doe. Would love to see what her coat looks like now.

Yes he really surprised me! I'm glad he isn't a dissapointment and knows how to make me happy I tried photographing her yesterday and today but she won't pose and lays flat.. will try again tomorrow. Need to update her photo on the website anyway. Btw this was a testbreeding to find out if the buck carries rex and satin, his father did and might passed it on to him. Fingers crossed that all goes well with an easy delivery and healthy kits and you find out lots from this test breeding. I never heard of any kind of "stunting" if a buck breeds early. I always read the warning of watching does that young for "first time mum" reasons. Sounds like he knows what to do, and got the job done. Showing you what a stud he is. Good for the little man. Can't wait to see what this breeding brings you. |

I've heard the 'stunted growth' thing, but think that's just an old wives tale. Can't come up with any logical explanation -- not like mating once burns that much energy. But - even if he went through the motions perfectly, there is always the chance that he is still 'shooting blanks'. Not impossible for him to be fertile already (we all know the stories of little bucks weaned too late catching mom or sisters) but also possible he isn't. Sounds like an important cross for you, so hope she takes! |
