Haven't been on here for a bit due to our Flemish coming down with wool block. Took him to the Vet yesterday. Vet says his heart, lungs, ears, eyes, nose, mouth, all in good condition. Fawkes is just not his normal goofy self. Fawkes is now on a "Bunny Cocktail" to try to get things moving. Small poops are showing up, but just can't get Fawkes to eat as he has no appetite. So syringe feeding him baby food, as the Vet requested.

Bunny Cocktail includes

Mineral Oil, DSS, Papaya tab, yogurt. This is given once a day. And then we need to syringe feed him baby food, leaning toward citrus type.

Vet said it will take a bit. Doesn't want to rush or shock Fawkes' system. If no improvement by Thursday, Vet wants to see him and then the next step of x-rays will be done. Hoping it doesn't get to that point.

Hate to see my Big Bun like this. We have him out of his crate so that he can go where he likes. The movement is good for him as well to get things inside "moving".

With this, though, Harrisburg is out for us. The money we had saved went towards the Vet for our Big Bunny, who is TOTALLY worth it.

Well, back to my Big Bun. Please send good vibes. Truly needed for our Fawkes.

So sad to hear that Fawkes isn't doing well and you won't be able to go to convention. :( Poor guy.

For my bunnies with a blockage/no appetite, I immediately go with butternut squash baby food (I have used this for years) and pure canned pumpkin. I mix this about 75% pumpkin and 25% baby food. Recently I decided to Ivomec my entire herd after 2 years... well, never again. More than half of my rabbits refused to eat. Of course, I had to syringe this mixture to the whole gang. Took a few days but everyone is eating on their own just fine now. Just a thought, the pumpkin may help along with the other things you're using.

My heart hurts even typing this, but just to let everyone know Fawkes passed away yesterday in my arms on the way BACK to the emergency vet clinic. Due to a stupid mistakes made by doctors.

After I typed this thread, Fawkes just did not look good to me. Plus I didn't like the fact that the first doctor did not prescribe pain meds. So, we packed Fawkes up, and went to the Emergency Clinic, that my Rabbit Savy Vet suggested if he was NOT in. They over sedated him to get x-rays. X-rays showed NO blockage, sound heart, lungs, liver, everything, except some gas. And that due to the "slow" way the first doctor treated (receptionist assured me he KNEW rabbits), had now shut down Fawkes GI tract.

The Vet and the Vet tech KNEW they over sedated him. And then sent us home with instructions of when he started to "come out of it" to get him active, syringe feed (pellets and critical care), so that we could get his GI tract moving again. Fawkes never had a chance to wake up, but he did try because he would react every time he heard us talking to him, and by 5:00, we notice he was having trouble breathing. As we were driving BACK to the Emergency Clinic, Fawkes struggled to breath, and just couldn't, but drowned due to his lungs being completely filled with fluid. He just looked up at me, and gave me a look of, " I just can't go on anymore", and passed in my arms. My husband even pulled over and tried to recessitate him, but couldn't even get air into his lungs.

Fawkes didn't have to die this way. I feel like a failure. All this research I did, knew what the next steps were supposed to be, and STILL my sweet boy dies due to a mistake made by someone else. Someone we trusted to do the right thing for the companion we loved.

We buried Fawkes next to Tonks. And today will take down his empty crate. There was no banging to wake us up, no sweet face to come out to greet us and say "I'm hungry", no more funny big bunny binkies, no sweet kisses and nose rubs on your face. Our sweet, goofy, big bunny is gone and we are truly devastated by this loss.

My dear Z, I was horrified to read your news. Your big lad had become a favourite of mine, a kind of e pet I guess. I am terribly sorry and know that no words I can give can help the emptiness you feel. I'm thinking of you there. Things have really hit you these few weeks. There will be sunny days.

Thank you dear Redbunny for your kindness. Tonks was a shock, but losing Fawkes was just totally wrong. Sunny days? Going to be a long while.

:'( Oh - can't say how sorry for your loss I am. Loved seeing all your photos of and reading your stories about him.

As the X-ray showed no blockage, do they know what the original problem was? Apologies if you don't want to talk about it ...

Oh, my heart... I am so, so sorry. There are no words. I really enjoyed hearing about big ol' Fawkes and seeing silly pictures of him. He seemed like such a character and I can't imagine the hurt that the people who actually knew him are feeling.

This is NOT your fault. No matter how good your vet is, sometimes they make mistakes/just don't care enough. Ridiculous.

Thanks Neubunny for your kind words and thoughts. Fawkes was truly an exceptional rabbit. Definitely when people refer to Flemish as "Gentle Giants' Fawkes proved that phrase 10 fold.

First doctor didn't feel x-rays were needed because he could not feel anything, so felt it was a small blockage that could come out by itself with a bit of medication. Also no pain meds because he felt Fawkes was not in pain as Fawkes was happily hopping around the office and investigating the inside of cabinets. Just the "rabbit cocktail" and orders to "get him moving".

2nd doctor, after the x-rays thought there might be something still in the intestines, but intestines looked good. The gas was troubling to him. 2nd doctor did check out mouth and ears when Fawkes was under sedation and felt there was no abscess causing havoc.

Thanks Sidd for your kindness.

Know it's not our fault, but it still feels like it as Fawkes was looking to us for help. Fawkes loved us unconditionally, and we let him down.
