I have two 4 month old bucks which are living peacefully still Ruth their moms and one with a sister. There has been no aggression at all.....not even a raised eyebrow. Both of these boys have great type and temperament and both have undescended testicles. Do you know if this s an issue with ND or some lines? I've no intention of selling them as they fit in here so well.

Some descend their testicles faster than others. My Rabbit Savy vet called it a "fishing expedition" when he neutered my Polish and ND at 4-1/2 months. Neville's didn't really descend until 5 months. Willard's sacks were formed but he was holding them up inside him due to the stress of being put in a box, left on the doorstep of a pet store. After a couple of months with us, his "jewels" finally dropped.

So just watch them and hopefully the "jewels" will emerge soon. I truly think its' all about the individual rabbit.

It can take time... and if it's cold where you are, maybe they're "hiding". ;)

Hopefully this lovely red buck shows his "jewels" soon. Actually waited for Luna to be ready before Neville. By the time I decided to put them together, Neville was 9 months old and Luna 8 months old. All equipment on both worked well to produce a litter. I guess I wanted them to be completely mature, physically and mentally for the task. I know some breed their rabbits right away, when things show up, or a sign from a doe that lifts, but I guess, being new, not in a rush, wanted my rabbits to be "ready". Fully matured.

Would love to see your red buck! Such a gorgeous color that you don't get to see often.

I wouldn't start to worry until you hit 6 months - or even 8 on a larger breed. My neighbor has an angora (now 3) that never descended, so that is possible --- not sure how it would translate to other breeds, but that buck has the softest, longest fiber we've ever seen -- and have heard from other angora breeders that 'wethered' bucks (whether undescended, split P, or fixed young) all tend to have that super soft fiber.

Z I'm one for waiting too but kinda feel pressurised by all the talk of fused pelvis...

I'll sort some out. I've a few reds which are now just getting into a lovely thick winter coat. I was having a good look at their colouring in some decent light....the buck is a wonderful clear red with no smut the others you can almost see the agouti trying to discolour them. Not easy. I've a lovely Thrianta doe which I bought in for the line.....Thriantas are amazing....their red vibrance is incredible and I just can't transfer that.

Fused pelvis is a total myth. Vet (cavy specialist) on one of the cavy boards (where the myth is even more prevalent) has an open challenge to anyone to provide evidence -- X-ray or necropsy photo -- to prove otherwise. He claims never to have seen it in more than 20 years of practice. To clarify - he isn't recommending that we breed older animals, just debunking a 'fused pelvis' as a reason for the issues.

Ligaments can tighten due to lack of exercise (rarely a problem in bunnies, even those kept in small cages) and fat can build-up around internal organs (more common in rabbits, but correctable with diet and exercise) - either of which can cause fertility problems in older animals.

Heard that rumor too. I've read people breeding unproven does at 2 years old and having successful litters. I think people rush some does when they aren't exactly ready, and then get upset when the doe doesn't produce, or even produces and doesn't know about taking care of her kits. Then she gets a strike against her because someone rushed to get her pregnant when she really wasn't ready. But that's just my opinion.

Thanks Red. Far from an expert on rabbits. Many more experiences to have, but what experiences I have had, I have honestly stated on forums. And will continue to do so. As it helps me too.
