PLEASE CIRCULATE - Urgent PLEASE CIRCULATE THIS NOTICE TO FRIENDS AND FAMILY ON YOUR CONTACT LIST In the coming days, you should be aware. Do not open any message with an attachment called: "Invitation FACEBOOK" Regardless of who sent it, it is a virus that opens an Olympic torch And burns the whole hard disc C of your computer. This virus will be received from someone you have in your address book That's why you should send this message to all your contacts. It is better to receive this email 25 times than to receive the virus and open it. |

I haven't heard of this Norm, could be a wind up. Mrs R gets fb invitations (she has no interest in facebook) that go straight into her spam folder. Sounds serious if it is genuine. |

And Linux, which I use, won't even run Windoze programs, so send me as many as you like! My ISP is very good at spam filtering and I don't receive much rubbish these days. This particular "virus" is well documented http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olympic_Torch_%28hoax%29 and http://www.symantec.com/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2006-022115-0852-99 and is nothing to worry about. It's a bit like the "Irish Virus" (click on the technical details tab) |

I received as an email this morning from a concerned friend, so I passed it on to other friends. If it is a fraud, then I was not to know and I am sorry. Edited by Norm Deplume, Jan 8 2014, 05:31 PM.

No need to apologise Norm. It's my job to keep up with what's what in computer virus. If you ever have any concerns, post away and I'll try my best to answer them for you. |

These sort of scare-story chain emails are invariably hoaxes - just delete them as soon as they arrive. No harm done Norm, though you might send a follow up email to your contacts to explain it's a hoax. |
