Jagger's Heartbreak: Not a song from the leader of the Stones, not yet any way, but something he must be feeling right now after the shocking, distressful news for him, of the apparent suicide of his girlfriend of 13 years, L'Wren Scott...and unsurprisingly prompting the Stones to cancel the first date of their Australian tour in Perth on Wednesday.

L'Wren Scott, the celebrated US fashion designer, born Luann Bamborough and raised by adoptive Mormon parents in Utah, changed her name to launch her modelling career. A towering figure of 6' 4", she became known here in Britain after getting together with Jagger after his split with Jerry Hall. They met when she was working as a stylist on a photo shoot. She designed stage outfits for notable performances at Glastonbury Festival and Hyde Park in recent years. 70 year old Jagger was there to support her when Scott showcased her collection in her debut London fashion show last year. However, this year the tables had turned on her fashion business which was reported to be spiralling into serious trouble with debts of several millions, forcing her to cancel her London Fashion Week show at the last minute in January, which she blamed on fabrics that arrived too late for samples to be sewn in time for the event. She has apparently resisted any financial help from her boyfriend...

She was found dead by her assistant 90 minutes after sending her a text message asking her to come to her Manhattan apartment without specifying why, the Associated Press news agency reported. Last night, a spokesman for the singer issued a statement to deny a report that he had recently ended his relationship with the designer. "The story in the New York Post re a split between Mick Jagger and L'Wren Scott is 100% untrue," said his spokeswoman, Victoria Scarfone. "There is absolutely no basis in fact to this story. It is a horrible and inaccurate piece of gossip during this very tragic time for Mick."

Tributes have been pouring in via twitter and news feeds from artists like Madonna who wrote in a statement: "This is a horrible and tragic loss. I'm so upset. I loved L'Wren's work and she was always so generous with me."...the doyenne of fashion editors, Vogue's Anna Wintour described Scott as "a total perfectionist... always unbelievably generous, gracious, kind and so much fun." Scott had dressed actresses such as Oprah Winfrey, Sarah Jessica Parker and Angelina Jolie for red carpet events and Nicole Kidman, said to be a friend for many years, is said to be heartbroken too. Scott was also a costume consultant for films such as Ocean's Thirteen and Eyes Wide Shut. <rose>

As for the rest of the Stones Australian tour, their promoter said no further information was available but people were asked to keep hold of their tickets until further news was available. The Stones are scheduled to play five more concerts in Australia and two in April in Brisbane & Auckland, New Zealand. The 'On Fire' tour is then scheduled to move to Europe in June, with concerts planned for the Netherlands, Germany, Italy and Belgium, having already travelled to the UAE, Singapore, Japan and China.
