This event is becoming a bit of a joke. I have never heard of the winners. There is always at least one jazz act (two this year, including Seb Roachford's Polar Bear) but they don't stand a cat in Hell's chance of winning, so why bother inculding them? Anyway, some hippity hoppity 'band' from Edinburgh. The musical equivalent of the Turner prize I think.

Does it have the same effect on sales? According to the BBC report, their winning album, Dead, had sold just 2,386 copies since its release in February, prior to the Mercury award.

I wonder if negative sales are possible?
