Thought I'd put this here. It means something to me. I miss several people, whether through death or just stopping posting and it's been very painful. I miss HMJ for one .... http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/feb/01/how-do-you-grieve-when-you-lose-an-internet-friend Social media makes it possible to develop friendships with people we’ve never met. Long before social media, there were news groups and there was a very active ballet group. I was saddened when the founder of the group died. The remaining posters carried on without him, but with the launch of Facebook, news groups died off. The ballet group is still alive, but there are very few posts on it nowadays. |

I miss beloved Norm...he was sometimes sweet, funny and irascible - always seemed to cheer me up reading his posts, especially when he was in banner waving mode...I really do fear the worse for him...

Yes, do you remember when I tried to sort out car parking for him at his local hospital where he had to attend regular appointments... Btw, he put his photograph in his members profile for anyone who wishes to see him! Edited by Mobson, Feb 1 2015, 05:19 PM.

If the worst, I wonder no one has looked through his inbox to deal with outstanding stuff, though it would be a difficult time. I think Mobs sent a message. |

I did indeed send a message and even searched for clues in folders I've kept when we were all in the other place...I recruited him to come over to us from there and we emailed each other at the time...I've also googled obits in and around Milton Keynes!

No I think not...his last posts were all in August 2014...in 'Happy Holidays' on 17th August, he told us he was going to Wales... "Mrs Norm(Norma!) and I are off to the 'Land of my Fathers' next Sunday for a few days. Our granddaughter and her friend are going on a full boarding, horsey holiday about 20 miles north of Swansea and we have volunteered to take them and fetch them. Frances and I will be staying in Swansea and hope the weather will be kind to us so that we can get on to some of the fabulous beaches on the Mumbles peninsular. Otherwise it may resort to seeking out long-lost relatives up in the Valleys!"... So that would have been Sunday 24th August...his last post here was Saturday 23rd @ 04.38pm in Mornington Crescent. He also told us that he belonged to "three different social groups in and around the place in which I live. The total number of people within these groups is around the two hundred mark. The majority of these people are indigenous white British but there are also people from the Indian sub-continent, Afro-Caribbeans, Hong Kong Chinese, Congolese, Jews, French and Dutch, among others. There are NEVER any integration problems among any of us and we all get along fine with each other. Strangely though, there are no Islamists in any of the groups. They emigrate to this country by choice, they accept our hospitality with all that entails yet do not seem to want to enjoy the British way of life. I ask, "WHY NOT"? He was pro-Israel. "If Hamas stopped fighting, there would be no war. If Israel stopped fighting, there would be no Israel"....He posted at end of July: Isn't anyone seeing the Israeli side of this confrontation? Doesn't anyone realise how ruthless and cruel Hamas is... He was a meat eater: I'll never become vegetarian Although I'm an octogenarian He told us (Caro) in M/C 2nd August 2014: "The village in which I live, borders the new town of Milton Keynes in Buckinghamshire. They call that "the town of a thousand roundabouts" and that is a pretty true description. They even have roundabouts with traffic lights on them, which, to me, totally defeats the whole concept of roundabouts." I mean since we have his photo we could put an ad (I could put an ad) in the local Milton Keynes paper asking if anyone knows him but that might be perceived as extreme - one just never knows ...found this in his April posts: "The editor of the 'Milton Keynes Citizen' has not had the decency or common courtesy to reply to my email."

I take it that his email address gives no clue to his real name. |

If you know Norm's real name but can't find an obit, doesn't that suggest he is at least still alive? |

Thanks for finding out about Norm, Mobs. I take it you originally googled the local obits, as I did myself, without knowing his real name - that always makes it more tricky. |
