How wonderfully uplifting this programme is...amidst the violence and bloody conflict of the early 1970s, youth orchestras sprang up across Northern Ireland, and one particular 7 year old Marie-Louise Muir took a bus to orchestra practice every Saturday morning, carrying her cello across a landscape marred by bomb blasts, riots and civil unrest. While the violence raged, she met children from other religious backgrounds for the first time. She formed friendships - and a love of music - that would endure long after the sound of gunfire had faded.

But life moved on for Marie-Louise. Her cello was set aside in her attic where it languished for 25 years. Even her own children never heard her play.

Now Marie-Louise dusts down her cello and allows it to reverberate with memories of a troubled but life-changing period.

More of the story and to listen again.... http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b05wyq5y

Hi Mobs,

Alas, that one passed me by.
It was a conflict we all had to deal with in our different ways.

We haven't spoken for quite a wee while; I hope all is well with you and yours.

You flatter me, caiss; my dreary, miserable old life?
Who would want to read about that!

From what she's told us, it's our Mobs who has lead the life that is worth reading about!

Example:

I pass yer man Bono in the street quite often.
Mobs "knows" him; coz her hubby designed the hotel Bono owns!

But, like me, Mobs was born was a plastic spoon in her mouth; which is why she knows I'm only joking when I have a wee go at her nice way of life!
