Last night on the World Service ...... fantastic (imo) documentary about the historical background to the John Ford film The Searchers. 55 minutes. Beeb at its best. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p02t24f0 There were many abductions by Commanches and Kiowas in Texas in the 1830s and 40s, following terrifying raids on early settlers. Lots of fascinating details ..... about the individuals, mostly children, but including the woman sought in the film, and attempts to find them, lasting many years, and how their lives played out, and about conditions in Texas then. Probably originally a R4 programme from last year ..... so good I had to stay awake until about 4 o'clock this morning! ![]() Britt Johnson - former slave, Searcher and legend in Texas in the 1860s.
