Just a quick note to say I will be away for a week from tomorrow. Off skiing!!! No, that is just a joke. Son and daughter-in-law are off skiing with their son (don't know how he'll take to skiing) and we will do some watching, though mostly I hope to be sitting in a motel in Wanaka looking after wee Hugo. Bit worried about icy roads, but they don't seem to have been as bad as a week or so ago, and we will (I hope) take a shuttle or some such paid transport up the mountain. The meals out should be good anyway. While I am away someone could nicely change the three-word chain in Mornington Crescent away from 'escapade' which I puzzled over for ages the other day, but didn't come to a new word. |

Hope you're enjoying your week away Caro...'fraid there's no movement as yet on the three-word chain...

I am away for another week from today. Off up to see our son, dil, and two wee grandsons in the North Island. Always horrendous trying to get reasonable flights up there, but we are driving to Christchurch this time, so bit easier from a larger airport than Dunedin. I wonder if we won the cricket? |

We stopped off in Scorton on the way to Kirkcudbright on Saturday. Weather not great today but been lucky so far. No sign of the 'wee Kirkcudbright centipede', which surprises me: I expected it to be on mugs, key rings, T shirts. If you mention 'Kirkcudbright' anywhere in Scotland, apart from Dumfries and Galloway region, that's the first thing anyone will think of. Off to Dumfries for a few days tomorrow, then off to Fife for a week.

Just back from a fortnight in USA - well, 13 days anyway. Grace-1 met us in Chicago, where we spent a couple of nights before moving on to Iowa. Travelled the Great River Road from Dubuque to Lansing before driving to Des Moines via Iowa City, then to Ames, home of Iowa State University, for a few days. Popped across to Omaha City for an overnight stay before returning to Chicago via Ames and Davenport. Weather wasn't brilliant the last few days, but we had very good day at the State Fair. |

That sounds like it's slightly off the main tourist route, w4at. What is Chicago like now? I don't know America much at all, never having been there. My sister spent a year in Maine as an AFS (American Field Scholar) student when she was 16/17. When my oldest son was in Scouts he and I did a study of Idaho once, which I think might not be too far from Iowa. Though who knows - it might be the other side of the USA really. The State Fair sounds great fun. We could have a bit more detail. |

I've checked Iowa - it's only three borders from Idaho! More than half the country wide though, so not perhaps very close. |
