It is our grandson's third birthday soon and we are off to the North Island for that. Away about 10 days and I don't usually do much on the computer when I am away. Enjoy the rest of the tennis, and the start of the Rugby World Cup. My husband and son are building a sandpit for little Peter, he wasn't supposed to know but he does and is looking forward to it. |

We are off ot Malaga for a few days. It seems to be an interesting town, ideal for a wee break: we are going Saturday to Wednesday. |

Not sure if this is the place to put this. Caro has given me (husband Malcolm) imperfect instructions. But she's asked me to let this Board know our not-such-good news. Caro has a rather serious stroke about one month ago, before our trip to New Plymouth - on 10 September which I note is her last post to you. We were at home and with ambulances and helicopter were in the hospital within a couple of hours - not bad for our rural location. She has begun her recovery well. Happily did not lose speech for more than a couple of days, and cognitive and memory functions are largely undamaged. Caro is well in herself. It was a left brain stroke and so the right side will take some time to recover. She already has some movement in her fingers (from none) and has begun the awkward task of learning (redirecting the brain) to walk again. We have a great Rehab Unit in Dunedin who are looking after her well. That's not to say she is enjoying the physio. If any of you have her email address, I could give further details and keep you updated if you wish. Happy to have information shared wherever you think appropriate. Malcolm for Caro ps I see you had "lost her" in recent posts. We nearly did but you'll see her back here again, hopefully before Christmas. It's nice people are so interested - thanks. I probably won't be back here for a bit so hope someone can fed the rest of you any info you may be interested in. All the best to you all from me and Caro. |

Thinking of Caro this evening whilst we were watching World Cup rugby...New Zealand All Blacks decimated France 62-13 in their quarter final game at the Millennium stadium tonight...I hope Caro was cheered by this as she progresses on her way to recovery and New Zealand reach the semi-finals....

It's obvious that Caissier is taking a break from this forum as I did for a wee while with just too many things going on in my personal life...seems that forums like this are just slowly going out of fashion...twitter and facebook reign supreme for most! Have been thinking about Caro and hope she is recovering well...I don't know whether Caissier did email Malcolm but now that I've got a minute or two's free time, I will do so... Hi Rick, Thank you and I wish you and your wife a very prosperous and happy New Year! Yes there's still no word from Caro/Malcolm...thought you might like to know what our message said... Hello again Caro and Malcolm: We want you to know that we are thinking about you and wish you the Compliments of the Season...and all the best for continued recovery in 2016. Ticks says he hopes you're progressing and well on the road to recovery and that the news of Brendon McCullum's impending retirement in February 2016 doesn't make you sad! Anyway, it's good news for us since BM has signed to play limited-overs cricket for Middlesex next summer... Love from Mobson and the R4Forum

Sorry people, Malcolm has been very busy since we got home. I am doing quite well now , though typing is quite difficult. I can now use my right hand a little, and am beginning to use it to write and type with it a bit but my shoulder does often feel sore. I can walk a bit with someone behind me just in case. My wheelchair is not very satisfactory but I will probably get a new one in March. Thanks for all your good wishes. I will get back here soon. Cheers, Caro. xxx |

Mrs Tickle and I have just been away, for rather less than a week, to Center Parcs in Elveden Forest. It dawned on me on our last day there that it would have been an ideal place for Mrs T to have taken her Mum, who was wheelchair-bound for the last few years of her life. Mrs T used to take her away for short breaks and it was always difficult to think of places that were wheelchair - and wheelchair-pusher - friendly. Center Parcs has miles of pleasant walkways in a traffic-free environment - and the one at Elveden is also nice and flat - so it would have been just the job. It's really annoying, having thought of it, that we didn't think of it before. |

I'm glad you both enjoyed your Centre Parcs break ticks. And yes, it's a great place to take disabled (referring specifically to non-able bodied here) family...my sister Jane, who was terminally ill with brain cancer for five years from the age of 30, used to go courtesy of the MacMillan Trust...the whole family spent a week there...she had two young boys who loved it and her husband enjoyed the freedom from the daily grind too. We were planning her 3rd visit when events took a downward turn. |
