The UK's vote on our European exit draws ever near,it may end up with a simple yes or no vote for all of us. IMHO, I can't see any way that we can remain in the EU as politicians will ultimately make this a vote against unlimited European immigration which without major polices making drastic changes on the human rights laws and immigration regarding the UK will make these two issues alone an insurmountable mountain? |

Update..... David Cameron to warn of EU exit if reform demands not heard - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-34759063 (The most reasonable argument of course against immigration on our present course we will be overrun with bodies here in the near future. We should already be looking at drastic measures to reduce our already very large population,we are but a small island and to think that we will end up with more citizens than France,Germany or Spain is simply ridiculous, what all our politicians here seem to be blindly overlooking is that with the growing trend of automating jobs, people will be the last burden any country will need?) Cameron has handled this so badly. He was forced into offering a referendum and his plan seemed to be to do a bit of smoke and mirrors, tell everyone he got us a good deal, and then to cheerlead for the Yes vote. Now he has painted himself into a corner and, if he's not careful, will be unwillingly leading the No campaign. He made a pig's ear ofthe Scottish referendum too and we haven't yet seen the full consequences of that. |

I gather that the EU is to blame for all the recent floods. Apparently, according to an EU directive, we're not allowed to dredge rivers anymore because it disturbs the molluscs in river beds. (I figure that must be true because you couldn't make it up.) |

Hello tickle, with all the other news at the moment our brexit is moving well down the pecking order. We are all in danger of sleepwalking out of the EU because our leaders are throwing their toys out of their prams. Instead of trying to represent what are the real issues, which of course are human bodies. With the mechanisation of the Western world humans are now obviously a major burden on any seriously educated society, if the fools in charge here think they are an asset then they obviously have never learnt to add up! = tiny island = space= health care= benefits = pensions = housing = education = overpopulation = ruination ! Donald Tusk to publish UK-EU 'settlement' - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-eu-referendum-35456633 I am of the opinion now that David Cameron is completely wasting his time and ours with these negotiations in The EU. Immigrants are still drowning on a regular basis just trying to enter Europe every weekday. We all know that once the weather and sea temperatures start to rise hundreds of thousands more people are going to get into Europe by any means necessary. The UK is top of the list for thousands. The Trojan horse effect with the UK accepting lone children is a genuine threat to all of us, especially as the bulk of these immigrants want Sharia law where ever they move to. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1510866/Poll-reveals-40pc-of-Muslims-want-sharia-law-in-UK.html Edited by Rikiiboy, Feb 1 2016, 08:54 PM.

EU referendum: PM to defend reforms package - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-eu-referendum-35479506 The way this is going now IMHO, we are heading for a landslide NO vote. Is David Cameron even up to this negotiating job? I think Dave fails to recognise is that many of today's electorate weren't even born when we joined the EU forty years ago. The threat of a massive influx of immigrants, has not been addressed at all , and remains the number one issue IMO. |

Hi all, I seem to remember when we joined the EU it was called the common market, we ditched lots of our regular food suppliers at that time from our own Commonwealth, which of course left many of those in the mire. The EU now resembles nothing like the union we joined then, in fact it seems like we are banging our heads against the wall with twenty six on one side and us all on the other,IMHO we are and island we have always got by on our own and will manage fine if that situation should reoccur again. I see all the scarmongers are now lining up to try and tell us that being in Europe is an asset, for the Europeans maybe it is, but look what has happened to all our manufacturing industries? Napolean declared we were a nation of shop keepers and we are certainly working harder to become one! We're a nation of financiers now, aren't we? It seems likely that Brexit would be detrimental for the finance sector. You might think that's a good thing, but it seems to be about the only thing keeping the country going at the moment. We hardly have a manufacturing sector anymore, so not much to trade with the 'Commonwealth' - although it certainly seems to make more sense to trade with them rather than a group of countries that produce much the same sort of things as we do - and more efficiently. I'm very sceptical of the claim that Britain is the world's 5th largest economy. I think we may rank 5th by value of imports, but on most other measurements we're much lower in the rankings. |

Mark Carney has only stated a simple fact i. e. In the short to medium term, 'Brexit' is a risk to economic stability. There is nobody on the 'Out' side who can sensibly deny that: the markets hate uncertainty and there would be some years of uncertainty, following an 'Out' vote. It could be argued that, long term, an exit might be in the UK's interest but nobody knows for sure. I think the Governor is just doing his job by stating these simple and undeniable facts. Jacob Rees-Mogg would be better off trying to make a convincing case for the long term, instead of indignantly huffing and puffing about Mark Carney doing his job.

I think we've already seen the effects of uncertainty in the currency markets, although on that note I'm quite surprised how well the US$ is holding up. Still, it's good to see that the Express is leading on something other than the weather - even if the coming storm may well swamp us all, in or out of the EU. |

Hi all, this is getting like a game of tennis,in or out! With all the scaremongering thrown in.This of course is nothing new to our once great nation, about 117AD we were all in a united Europe, well before Jesus or Mohammed, it was called the Roman empire then and the Germans weren't even in it let alone in charge. I wouldn't trust Boris Johnson as far as I could kick him. It's only a few weeks since he was supposedly wrestling with his conscience over this 'very difficult and finely balanced decision'. Having decided what suits his personal agenda he is now ranting like a posher version of Trump. He is a despicable weasel that has no business in public office. I would say the same if he was campaigning to stay in. |
