Hi everyone, I am a bit late saying thank you for noticing me!
66 and still knocking on wood,I guess living on a meagre pension ain't the greatest but not working anymore sure is.
Mr Ebby is what Mrs cut-out calls me now,I guess the way we now live we should have been doing years ago, making do and mending is great too, once again folks ,THANK YOU!

(The origin of knocking on wood for this purpose is believed by some to be from early pagan mythology. Wood gods, or dryads, lived in trees, and people would go to them for blessings and to prevent bad luck. )

Hi Rik, I am finishing up at the end of this year. I'm relatively young (I will be 60 in March) but I just can't do it any more. I hope, between me and Mrs R's various pension bits and pieces, we will be able to live.
Keep writing, to want to do it is as great a gift as the ability to do it, and you have both. I find it difficult to motivate myself but I am writing more these days; mainly sonnets and mainly in Scots (so, most don't make it on to these boards). I think a couple of things will be published on the Lallans website at some point, if they are, I will post a link.

Hello rumbaba, 60 is a nice age, hopefully you've both got a lot more miles in your tanks, I have been having a go at insulating our house a bit more,we had that cavity wall insulation installed and although the house feels warmer we have had to buy 2 dehumidifiers to control the masses of additional condensation.
I have a home made fly screen on my rear stable back door, well I have covered the mesh with clear plastic sheeting and duck taped a sheet of 1 inch thick celotex sheet to the inside of my fly screen, the single glazed back door is the warmest door in the house now, I have recently changed my old front door with a new coloured composite one which is C rated.
I am now installing slightly thicker double glazed units in all my North facing windows.
Heating bills and electric bills are slowly coming down but as fast as we cut them the feckin privatised utility companies keep upping them.
If you can stay mortgage free and keep on top of your maintenace jobs yourself you can keep your bills down although it may mean you end up tackling more adventurous tasks than you had previously.
I recently dug up my front 20 ft long front tarmac path and replaced it by laying 20. 2 x 2 paving slabs, after a lot of swearing and a bashed finger nail (I hit my left index finger with a 3kg lump hammer) which is still blackened 12 weeks later, but the end result was well worth it even if I did have to turn to youtube for the odd tips.
Still... good luck to you and yours "R" and keep trucking or as in your case, cookin'!

Hi Rik, Mrs R is a few years older than me, another reason for me to go earlier.
